The dealer got this 06 530Xi and the first thing I noticed while prepping for compounding routine was the wheel faces where scratched. Upon closer inspection the recess' were deeply scratched. I think the previous owner tried to use Scotch-Brite pads to remove brake dust...and totally screwed up the surface.

So, I used a couple of tools to correct the condition: The spoke faces were easy. Just a 6" wool pad and compound made short work of fixing these (and the lift was a blessing). I used 3M Extra Cut on the wool followed by a few passes with Meguiar's #83 on the wool.

Next, the wheel recess area (lots of damage here...the paint was dulled completely). I have an air-powered rotary 3" with wool and foam pads, so I used wool and Extra Cut. Had to do a lot of careful work because I didn't want the small, hard backing plate to contact the sides of the spokes.

I probably spent 20 minutes per wheel, but they came out superb and fixed correctly.

Now I can attack the body of the car.

Hi TOTO,
Nice work as always !
So what does this small rotary tool look like and who makes it ?

Off hand, I don't know the mfg, but I think Harbor Freight sells them along with most body shop suppliers. It's a pistol grip unit.

I use a kit from 3M that has the 3" backing plate, couple of wool pads (also superb for headlight lense buffing) and a couple of foam finish pads. WORD OF CAUTION: The small diameter and rpm of the air tool concentrates heat and you can do some serious damage to paint very quickly (I've done a few burns with this unit trying to repair scratches on tight panels where the big rotary would not fit).

As always your attention to finite detail amazes me as always - Kudos

Toto, great work. You should open up a detailing university, I know I would come..

I am also highly jealous of your detail shop....

Finished compounding the car today...now it's looking like a nice ride. Polish tomorrow and wax.

I really love the way you are ready to tackle any problem large or small. You are without question in the top three best detailers I have ever seen, and I've been around for quite a while (57 yrs.). Congrats on another super job.
