Hello. I have been having issues with Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant staining black trim. Is anyone else in the same boat there?

It's a great sealant wax that lasts a long time and I really like how easy it is to apply...but I am sure it's the culprit behind the stains on the plastic trim around my windows. Is there anything as good or better that doesn't stain rubber and plastic? Being good for making glass shed water is an added bonus.

Most any SIO2 product will work great, they can be applied on rubber/plastic/glass..with no issues

Hello. I have been having issues with Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant staining black trim.

Can you please explain what you mean by staining? Is it darkening the plastic window trim or leaving some kind of white residue similar to a wax?

I really like Wolfgang DGPS and I use it every October but I know what you mean by staining black vinyl trim. I usually tape off the vinyl trim because the polish stains even more than the sealant. SiO2 products are a better option if you do not want the staining. The issue for me with the SiO2 products are that they last too long. I like applying sealants and waxes because it give me something to do.

Sure helps me lower the conversation time with the Mother in law.....:D:dblthumb2:

Maybe you should teach the Mother-in-law to apply your sealants; best of both worlds!

That product is sorta old school...not saying it's a bad product, but there are so many NEW products available that will stop your issue with white residue..

Griots 3 in 1
Griot's Garage Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax
Meg's hybrid
Meguiar's Hybrid Paint Coating
Can coat EVO
GYEON Q2 CANCOAT EVO - 200 ml

Wolfgang has a SIO2 product as well
Blackfire

Wolfgang SiO2 Paint Sealant
BLACKFIRE SiO2 Spray Sealant

I was actually thinking about switching (almost) completely over to the Griot's ceramic system. Good to know it's one of the recommended products on here. They claim UV protection on paint, rubber, and plastic, and I saw a YouTube test by a "Scott HD" who found it to be one of the most durable around.

I used OCW on my car recently...do I have to use the Griot's Surface Prep to get it off or can I just spray the 3-in-1 without doing an LSP cleanse?

Surface prep is key in applying ANY product...the cleaner/smoother you can get the surface the better results you will have in durability/shine/slickness

Point taken!

Is Surface Prep strong enough to remove contaminants without really needing to clay? Are there any instances where I'd be better off using something like OCW instead of the ceramic spray? Griot's claims you can spray the 3-in-1 on literally anything, so....not sure what to do with all the bottles of OCW I have left lol.

Ya I would go with surface prep...I just did my truck this weekend and started with that to remove old contamination .

I have to LOL.......we ALL have issues with garages full of 1/2 used products....it's the game....and the game that continues on and on....:xyxthumbs:

I've done at least 15 vehicles with WGDPS and a polisher, straight Mike Phillips AIO style, everything gets a pad and product and I have never had any issues with trim on any of those vehicles. Did I just get lucky?

OCW is as good a spray sealant as any. It's the only spray wax with a patented UV blocker.

I looked into this last time someone mentioned OCW having the only UV blocker. A quick look at 303 Graphene Nano, Griot’s 3-in-1 Ceramic Wax, and CarPro Reload all show UV protection. Adam’s, Blackfire, and Wolfgang paint sealants don’t advertise UV protection but I’m sure there are others that have UV protection. What I couldn’t find is what level of UV protection each product has but supposedly there is a minimum amount required to be able to use UV protection on the label.

This UV Blocker business gets kicked around and argued about a LOT

My 4Runner has lived outside for 14 Alaska winters, summers, and the 15 minutes in between those 2 seasons

My headlights, gaskets, seals, etc look almost new and I attribute a LOT of that to the fact that regardless of whatever base LSP I have on the car it gets topped with OCW

I know what you are thinking but let me tell you headlights, rubber seals, and trim in Alaska can get just as cooked as headlights etc in the sunbelt if you don't protect them

Just think 20 hours of sunlight for several months on end plus the harsh road chemicals for months on end

My daughter in law's Lexus headlights are so yellow and crazed it is ridiculous and dangerous as are many many cars up here that aren't near as old as mine

OCW works for me and I would and have used it as a standalone without a minute's hesitation

Edited to add: OCW gets put on EVERYTHING and has never stained rubber, plastic, decals, etc in my world

Hate to tell you Chilly but sunlight in the upper and lower latitudes has a higher incidence (angle) so there isn’t as much UV radiation. And even though Alaska has longer hours of sunlight, the sun is fairly low in the sky for many of those hours.

And at least in Fairbanks, they just put sand on top of the snow/ice on the roads when I was there. There weren’t many chemicals in use that I know of but that was just my experience.

The fact that you mention so many cars are in poor condition I guess means they use chemicals down where you live. I believe OCW definitely helped keep the condition of your cars but I also wonder how much of that is due to others not keeping their cars clean. Cause we know you aren’t even remotely close to 99.9% of the usual car owners in AK when it comes to upkeep.
