Greetings Mike,

I own a 2006 Cadillac XLR and there seems to be some type of oily/greasy substance that I cannot seem to remove. I have tried just about every window cleaners Diamonite, Surf City Garage, Mr. Glass and the like. Windshield will appear to be clean until the is directly on it, and the oily greasy streaks appear. I know some 'Old Schoolers" would put a light coat of wax on thier windows, I have not applied any thing on my windshield. And they are causing an issue while driving, when the sun heats them head-on they obscure vision. Are there any methods or products you can suggest to fix this issue? Question would clay barring the windshield help or hurt? Any help will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for your help.

Clay barring can only help. Another thing you can do after you claybar the glass is use a Magic Eraser with diluted All Purpose Cleaner or Glass Cleaner as the lube.

This McKee’s High Performance Glass Restorer works great at tackling the sort of issue you’re describing. If those 2 other methods don’t work, this would be the next step up.

I agree with E2K and before I read his response I was thinking I'd hit it with an AIO

A polish or even compound on a foam or microfiber pad would take the road film off. There are polish sold for this (Wolfgang has one) but I don’t think a specialized product is necessary. Just wipe with a good glass cleaner after polishing to remove the leftover polishing oils. If this fails try CarPro Ceriglass.

Hello,

My sister had the same problem with her car. I used degreaser and magic eraser followed by mckees37 glass restorer with a orange pad. Did this twice and the windshield was spotless.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I will give them a try and report back.

Check the condition of your wiper blades and if you have rubber seals around the windshield that might need some deep cleaning. Use a tire and rubber rejuvenate cleaner on the rubber seals. Apply to a mf towel and scrub until you don't get any black transfer on the mf towel. Or at least much less of it. The wiper blades even if looking fine but they are old I would get new ones. Cause sometimes they reach a point when they can start studder when well cleaned. Then with this out of the way. You have great options above on how to get the glass deep cleaned. And hopefully the problem gets solved.
