Well Sema is coming fast, anyone have any 'wish lists'? I am sort of at the frame of mind the detail world is at baby steps... kinda getting hard to come up with new or out there products at this point. I mean, nobody is reinventing the wheel. Most products are variations of what's out there. But always interesting to see what companies bring to the table.

I think you're right that the changes are likely to be incremental...but let's face it, change usually is. The step-changes in detailing (since I've been on forums since 2004) were mostly in the late 2000's, with coatings (including tire coatings), microfiber polishing/cutting pads, SMAT polishes/compounds, and the normalization of rinseless washing. Add to that gear-driven and long-stroke orbitals, and the later appearance of cordless tools. Maybe color-changing wheel cleaners needs to be added in there.

Of course it's hard to predict a "reinvention of the wheel", so who knows what we might see. One of the recent trends has been...let's call them decon washes, whether it be one-step, or "3-pH". I don't see these as being "invented" recently, just that their use has become normalized, just like rinseless washing was around for a long time before the appearance of ONR normalized it.

Optimum and Dr Colorchip have teamed up and have came out with a new product or two. Other than that I know nothing

DIY Detail launched a ceramic detail spray called Envie. They already have got it in the hands of the usual detailers to create reviews. They have been hyping the reveal for several months.

Watched two so far. Another hyped spray sealant whoop-de-doo.

Once I saw that it was the usual circle jerk of detailers "reviewing" it I didn't even bother to watch any of the videos. And who, for the love of all that is holy and pure, will apply a spray sealant with a polisher?

Dont tell anyone but I am building a detailing 🤖 (and she's super 🔥)

Amazing how little people will sell out for and ruin their reputation

They do not feel like they are ruining their reputation. The limelight is addicting for many and get to mingle with the "big boys". Even in PBMG's hey day, Meghan sought out select people to review products.

I do not know any local place other than the Walmarts, AZ, Advance, etc.

People are desperate for approval.
I would rather be despised.

Mister Snoop lives near one of the smaller but very well-stocked internet detail suppliers. I'm an hour+ away from there, same with Detailer's Domain.

The one that is near me popped up during the pandemic, and has now moved to a less convenient location (for me). The new location has a detail bay that they were advertising you could rent (a la The Bays) but they are not showing that now, only classes and one-on-one training. Some time when I'm in that area I'll have to stop in, if I remember. They do seem to stock a lot of the brands we know, as well as some that are not so common, like Barry Theal's Americana Global (if he's still associated with that, I can't remember) and Car Candy (where Meghan went). They also have their own house brand.

I got some free stuff from PBMG/Autogeek a couple times to test and/or review. Never got any money for it though. Maybe I was too honest, or just didn't know how to play the game :D

Back on topic: I saw a CarPro video on Instagram this morning showing bunch of snips of products in reference to SEMA. No information, just a few seconds of the products being used on a black car. Nothing too valuable with lots of spraying going on and a hint at maybe a polish of some sort. One thing that did catch my eye was a brief snip of what could be an Alcantara/microsuede cleaner. I could use that!

Nobody got paid for that. The attraction was being in-the-know about products before they came out, etc. That was how Zaino developed their Zealots, and was a technique that Meguiar's used, also. I can't remember if David B. did that also at Autopia. It was the early version of an "influencer".

He did as a matter of fact. I was a big tester for the Ultima line before it's full release. They ended up using my Nissan 350Z on all the product labels :)

I still use some of those products to this day. The Ultima Trim and Tire Guard and the Paint Guard Plus are excellent.
