Sema 2025

He did as a matter of fact. I was a big tester for the Ultima line before it's full release. They ended up using my Nissan 350Z on all the product labels :)
Oh yeah, how could I forget that! Red Dot #13 or something.

Wasn't Red Dot #13 for the Meguiars NXT Wax? Or was that Lab Sample 49? Remember the wars about whether NXT had abrasives? People were polishing their dryers after writing on them with Sharpie Markers lol.

I layered Klasse SG over Sharpie, writing a number after each layer so I could see if the layers wore off...as I recall that experiment didn't work.

I think Lab Sample 49 or whatever the number was NXT, that was a little before my time. I remember Ultima being the Red Dot, and that whatever the number was, was kind of a red herring where David B. had the active ingredient for the Ultima WOWA put into a more traditional carrier so as not to reveal the WOWA nature of the finished product. Unfortunately for him Zaino beat him to market with a WOWA, and I think Opti-Seal also came out before the Ultima product.

I still use some of those products to this day. The Ultima Trim and Tire Guard and the Paint Guard Plus are excellent.
You are a great writer Pat. I always enjoyed your reviews
How is my Chevy II doing?

How is my Chevy II doing?
Thanks that is much appreciated. Chevy II is gone. My next door neighbor walked into my garage and said he wanted it. Put down a good amount of cash and drove out the door. He lives on a 6 acre property behind me and I haven't heard it running or seen it since I sold it.

Oh man! The garage I'd have if I lived on 6 acres...

You were right, it was Red Dot #49 : https://www.autopia.org/threads/how-durable-is-too-durable.107393/

That thread is really confusing because somehow in the forum upgrades David B.'s posts appear as "Bobby G"...unless of course David B. was Bobby G? But you can see he signs some of the posts "db" and when he's quoted it comes up as "David B."

There is also some reference to "Lab Sample D", which may have been NXT, as I said, that was a little before my time, when I got to Autopia the wars over whether NXT could be layered were in full swing, as I recall.

For all the drama NXT Wax was actually a pretty good product. I was sponsored by Meguiars for my 300ZX and they would push the NXT line hard at car shows etc. NXT Wax It was probably the flagship of the line. The NXT Spray Wax ranks up there with one of the worst detailing products created.

Was it bad right from released? Bad user experience or results?

I wonder if I still have my bottle of the NXT spray wax. I remember it having a lot of solids in it, and you would spray it on and wipe it in and let it haze and there would be all these pieces of...something...that didn't want to come off when you went to buff it. It was easier to just use the (liquid) NXT wax.

The problem with all the Meg's "waxes" was that they stained trim like a mofo, due to the kaolin clay "cleaners" they put in there to make sure the surface would be ready for the sealant part. That was the arguments Pat was alluding to, about whether NXT was a "pure" sealant, whether it would layer, etc. Layering was a big thing at the time due to the Zaino crowd, and the Klasse people would also layer, etc.

Everybody wanted something that would last through the winter, coatings like we have now weren't even something we could imagine 20 years ago...even though that's what we were all looking for.

NXT soap was the best Meguiars consumer soap. The NXT wax initially looked good but faded fast.

We can't hold on to to everything forever I guess and hotrods and the people who own them are a dying breed
Hope life is treating you well old friend

I have never seen anyone uncover so many unnoticed mysteries than you 🤔

But do they really do anything to protect or is it all smoke, mirrors and beading

On an unrelated note a friend of mine that is local to the area has been telling me for months about the drastic decline in foot traffic at the casinos (especially the strip).
They blame an aging population, a terrible economy and most importantly an incredible rise in costs of things that used complimentary

If your going to SEMA you may need to tap into your home equity line of credit if you want to have any fun

Apparently because MOL is down, there doesn't seem to be any Meguiar's new product teasers this year. Or maybe that's why MOL is down, so they don't have to do the teasers.

As far as other SEMA introductions, I see a couple of things on the Optimum site, not sure if these are new for SEMA or if they have been out a while, one is the Big Gold Sponge 2.0, following with the previous changes to the BRS. And a 27mm-throw corded DA polisher...huh? I guess Dr. G is trying to one-up Yvan after the DIY 25mm. 30mm, anyone?

Rupes Bigfoot Nano iBrid Long Neck Mark II Polisher is now even more powerful, versatile and innovative. Featuring the exclusive SmartFix quick-release system. It allows easy, fast connection and disconnection of the functional units.

Thanks to the new gear reduction system, the Nano II can operate in rotary mode up to 2000 RPM even with 50mm backing plates, ensuring consistent torque and superior control. Ideal for precision work in tight spaces and defect removal, it is the perfect tool for polishing professionals who demand flexibility, reliability and uncompromised performance in every situation.

I see pre-order prices of 418 for just the bare tool and 490 with 2 batteries. Ships next week.
