I currently have a 2 Hp small vacuum and a separate leaf blower for drying. I Know I need a better vacuum. I see some that have a blower port and some with a detachable blower.

Has anyone used the ones that are say 4-5 HP with a blower port--is the blower strong enough to use instead of my leaf blower? I would like to streamline the amount of gear I take to a detail job as this is just a hobby and I don't want two power tools where one would suffice.

I am uncertain how ggod these blowers are as this isn't really there main purpose

Thanks
David

I wouldn't want to use the same equipment for vacuming as blow drying the car as there is a chance of blowing dust/dirt etc onto the paint.

I have a Ridgid shop vac (forget what size) that I got on sale at Home Depot. I believe it was $60 and I'm more than happy with it.

I use the vacuum to clean the interior. It has a detachable blower that is portable and gets all the water out of the stubborn nooks and crannies on my Optima. The vacuum and blower use separate hoses, so there's no risk of blowing dust collected by the vacuum back out, as was mentioned in the post above.

Awesome. I saw some with the detachable blower

I was just in the same situation. I am in Canada so this may make a difference but the Rigid 6hp that I bought was 125 with the 50 auto detailing kit and I bought a homelite blower (220MPH) for 50.

If I wanted the equivalent Rigid with the blower it was 170 and I would have to purchase the auto detailing kit for an additional 50. The blower speeds were not nearly as high either.

I went with the homelite and the rigid without the blower.

I would hate for something to come flying from the vac and scratch the paint so I just played it safe and for me I saved a little bit.
