Should I add a topper to my Cancoat?

Put Cancoat Evo on my wife’s Navigator in December ‘22. Still seems to be doing ok; we don’t drive it much and it’s garaged. We’ll be taking it to Montana next month (from Texas). Have been considering putting a topper on it before then. Looking at, but not totally decided on, Gyeon Q2 Wax. Thoughts…

Since the vehicle gets such little use, I'd probably just hit it with something like Gyeon's Ceramic Detailer or Cure if you want to stay with Gyeon. I used Cure with CanCoat and really liked the results even though Cure was a little tricky to deal with.

If you don't care about staying with Gyeon for a topper, any number of ceramic detail sprays would probably do just fine and by much easier to apply. My current favorite is Armour Detail Supply's Amplify.

I'm generally not a topper.....but lately, similar, if we're taking it on a long weekend - extended day drive, I'm doing a pre-wipedown before the trip with Meg. Bead Booster, just so hopefully the bug guts + post High PH wash of them....the topper is the sacrificial layer

Agreed cure can be finicky.

Amplify or ceramic spray sealant would be my choice

I use 3D Bead it Up as a drying aid which really "slicks up" the surface.

Cut Cure 50/50 with distilled water if using ‘original formula’ Cure.

Their relatively new ‘Reimagined’ Cure is supposed to be non-streaky but have not tried it.

That said I’d just chemically decon, wash and add more CanCoat.

Don't do the wax. I am speaking from experience but Gyeon q2 Wax over one of their coatings is not great. You will never get the behavior of cancoat if you do so.

This is what I did after fighting through the application a couple of times. I found Ceramic Detailer to behave very similar to the diluted Cure. Great results, but still not the easiest to work with. Amplify easily beats both.

Decided to leave it go as is since it still seems ok. Might decon wash but probably won’t have time/energy before we go. Might also use ceramic detailer as a top up/or use Ech20 as my next rinseless go over.

I love Cancoat's gloss and hydrophobics, but it always felt "grabby" to me - definitely not a slick coating. So I like to add a topper that adds some slickness. I am also a huge fan of ADS Amplify. Two other products that I have used on top of Cancoat to add some slickness are TEC-582 and Xtreme Solutions Topper.

After every application of CanCoat, I have always followed with Cure to bring back the slickness. In fact, I did this earlier in the week, CanCoat applied on top of Essence, then topped with Cure.

When I first bought a bottle of Cure, I was expecting it to streak like everyone said it would, but even with the older formulation, I have yet to see this trait in Cure. Same thing with Reload v1.

I do wonder if this is due to the product synergy of applying a Gyeon product on a Gyeon product. I've also noticed this with Carpro EliXir, which is typically a bit streaky, but when used on a Carpro coating it's a completely different animal.

Having said that, Amplify would be an excellent choice, you'd have to be doing something stupid to make it streak.

Cure streaked for me even when used on top of gyeon coatings.

I will say that if i spray amplify directly onto the paint surface, on black paint then wipe i will get faint black streaks. So i spray into the towel then wipe, withoit issue. Come to think of it i dont rememeber if ceramic sealant does the same or not. I willhave to test it next wash on buick.

I have a bottle of their ceramic sealant that I haven't used yet. I do have a car booked for Monday, planning on giving it a go then.
