Should I seal or wax before putting bumper stickers on the paint?

Just kidding. They are on the back window

I guess I should introduce myself. After reading this forums for a month or so I know I am not an autogeek and will probably never achieve that status. I just can't worry about water drying on my truck or getting bird crap off immediately. I drive it through salt water and through mesquite thorns. My goal is to be in the top 33% of the cars in the parking lot where I work. It's a very low bar. I pay more attention to the interior, than the exterior. If it looks good from two steps away, I'm happy.

So if my rims and tires are really clean, I will hit them with the same washmitt I use on the paint (ok I may end that practice). OTC products are fine, but I have started buying some better stuff. I did come home and vacuumed the sand right away instead of waiting for next weekend. I did finally take care of some carpet spots after reading how easy it would be with Folex. I even cleaned the inside of my fuel door (1st time in 35 years of driving).

Baby steps. Maybe there is hope for me.

So, what's your point? Celebration of mediocrity, or sarcasm for those of us who happen to like clean cars? Try knitting or caligraphy, they will probably appeal to you more.

Hey pal, I too don't know where this thread is going to but there's no need for your comment...totally unnecessary

Hey back "pal". That's what forums are for - comments. Just because you don't like them doesn't make them unnecessary. I find yours as unnecessary as you found mine. I was not aware that necessity was a prerequisite of posting. If so, then considering world hunger, war, disease, etc. the entire forum is completely unnecessary. There was actually some subtle humor intended in my reply, but I guess it didn't make it through your censorship sensitivities, much the same as the subtle jabs in the post previous to mine. Sorry you missed it. When you get off your high horse, you will find the view is not quite as lofty, but you will not be quite as saddle sore!:xyxthumbs:

I'm not on my high horse at all, He's clearly a new member, and regardless of that, I believe that you came on a little too strong with your sarcasm.

And you sir are right, forums are for comments. However, I would not have commented on this forum as I did not see what the purpose of it was...You on the other hand had to put this member down by giving your unnecessary comment that should never have been said in the first place. So instead of me hopping off my high horse, how about you recheck yourself and your ego, because it is not welcome in this community!

Everyone has their opinion. The mods will deem the thread necessary or not. That said...I'm entertained by both of you.

All this hostility is going to drive people away from this forum. wgarrjr your first comment wasn't necessary at all. The op admitted to not being as pick as most of us are on this forum. He did say that he has changed his techniques since reading the forums. Everyone has to start somewhere. I don't think there was any humor in your comment, the way i read it you attacked him an told him to go on a knitting forum because he might like that better.

An Arizzle, I completely agree with you on your position on this matter. However, I don't think getting into an arguement with him on a new members introduction thread is the best approach.

An to the op, Welcome to Autogeek!! Don't mind the children on this forum, we are all here to learn an expand our knowledge!
:buffing:

Totally agree with your comment, trying to stand up for this member, that's it. And Yes! Welcome to AutoGeek, this is a great and friendly community where everyday, each and every one of us learns something new...so grab that paper and pen and make sure to always keep it handy! Plus check out Mike Phillips's Articles on Detailing...lots of great examples of proper technique as well as a guaranteed education on detailing and helping each other!

Sincerely,

Alex!

Don't worry... you will be an AutoGeek soon my friend. Just wait till you start carrying a small bottle of ONR QD with you everywhere "just in case."

I think you have the same mindset as most do when just starting to get the detailing itch. Most think a car is a car and that's great if it looks nice but most people don't have the time/tools/knowledge/desire to produce a show car finish... Let alone maintain it on a daily driven vehicle.

Forums like this expose people to the proper tools needed to create high-quality finishes. The vast amount of GREAT people here will share with you the knowledge necessary to use those tools properly. Slowly the desire will build... Before you know it your daily with have it's own show 'n shine thread and you will be an inspiration to the next newcomer to stumble across this great digital consortium of detailing fanatics.

Very Inspirational Nicholas! Bang-on with the response!

Very Inspirational Nicholas! Bang-on with the response!

"Bang-on"? Really? People actually say that where you live? Man, no wonder we are in disagreement! I honestly did not intend to offend anyone, and if I did, I am truly sorry. I do find it ironic that it is apparently acceptable to be critical of another's comments as long as one is critical of someone who has been perceived to have been critical of someone else. In places where people do not exclaim "Bang-on", this is what is known as hypocrisy, or the Thought Police for one literate enough to be familiar with Orwell's dystopia 1984. (I know, he predicted a future that occurred long before you were born.)
Now that I know that you are the arbiter of what is welcome and accceptable in the community, I will be sure to seek your approval for future posts. I must have missed that part of the forum rules. I also missed the post where you were requested to run to the rescue of the original poster. Must have been a PM cry for help?
Much as you are defending the original poster, I intended a reply to the poster's clear mockery of those of us who do get concerned about "bird crap" on our cars. I typed it while smiling, as the poster no doubt did too. These are the kind of comments that two men might make to each other in a good-natured way over a beer. When you reach legal drinking age, you will no doubt run across this type of behavior, so be forewarned.
For the record, I welcome the new poster with a smile and a handshake. I appreciate his humor and his 33%. It makes the rest of our cars look even better!
Bang-on? Really?

Baby steps. Maybe there is hope for me.

The detailing spark can ignite a fire which can turn into a blaze. The blaze I'm referring to is the inner desire to better maintain your vehicle no matter what it is.

Detailing and car-care in general is a personal choice and like most choices are all different. In the end it's about personal satisfaction and what pleases the owner. If a simple wash and spray wax fits the bill then that's all there is folks. If a deep flawless finish is the ultimate goal then the path to that goal is much different...

The choice is yours......:props:

Obviously my post was too subtle for wgarrjr. Allow me to explain.

I will never be as good as some of the pros here. It isn't my job, I don't have the passion that y'all do. I also noted the baby steps I've taken after reading these forums, concluding by saying maybe there is hope for me after all. I did not wish to insult or mock anyone, that would be very rude. Unlike wgarrjr, I prefer not to insult people and apologize profusely if I did. My attempt at humor was perhaps inappropriate for this forum.

Wgarrjr has made it clear that this forum is not for amateurs who are looking to get a little better. I wish y'all well.

I wish you well too!

Everyone was an amateur at one time or another.....

I do disagree that this forum is not for amateurs because venues like this are designed to share information and experiences in order to teach and educate those that would like to learn and apply a little or a lot more knowledge of care-care...

Most of us here are amateurs, don't let anyone tell you different. I feel it same to say that 75% or more members are simply hobbyists and noting more.....myself included.

My career early on was autobody and painting....back in the 70's and 80's and detailing was a component of this. Last Saturday I turned 60 and there's nothing like spending an entire day fully detailing one of my cars or someone else's for that matter....I find it both relaxing and rewarding...

Nick, you are spot on with this comment. When I got my car, it had 95k and the body looked like a typical city car, but it ran perfect. For the first year I barely washed it and dind't really care. This past april I got hit by an 18 wheeler, the front bumper and 1 fender were replaced. Man did that open a can of worms!!! Now im pissed that part of my car looks new. Long story short, I found this website, bought a bunch of stuff and its game on! This forum and its members has been the best!

Wgarrjr, I just realized you have about six posts here, half in this. Since you seem to have taken the bird crap comment the hardest let me explain. We're both sitting around the deer lease and a bird nails us both. Your response? Distiller water, a microfiber, and some QD. My response, $20 a man, next truck to get hit takes all! I'll clean the bird crap when I get home. I will clean it at home. Not at work, not in a shopping center parking lot, at home. Hence not immediately.

What you took for mocking was humility. There is a lot of knowledge here, more than I could consume on a part time basis, more than I could use in what remains of my lifetime.

Yes texsox, Bobby is totally right! Most of us here are amateurs, however that's completely irrelevant. What's important is the knowledge you are learning and the friendships you will further develop from this site. You have joined a great community and are always welcome here!

Please ignore Wgarrjr, he is continuing to start problems...for example mocking me and making fun of me saying "Bang-on" like i'm from another planet...GET REAL! Once I find the ignore/report button I will let you know Texsox

**Just found it, so I will PM you**
Have a great day!

I'm an amateur, I like to keep my vehicles clean and lookining good. I'll do a car for a family member or friend when they ask.

I find the forum is a friendly place to comment and view the work of others as an inspiration to do better. You will too.

As for you, your priorities are not the same as mine, so if you don't put me down for mine, I won't put you down for yours. I find detailing relaxing, and a source of pride. You don't, yet (lol).
