A little rest after chasing the ball...................





Hmmm, why do I get the impression he want's me to stop working?



We are practicing some obedience commands at the moment. I had so many people telling me I should/must take him to puppy training school, but I've never really been a fan of dog trainers, if you know you know. I'm doing it myself.

I've never taken any of my dogs for training either. So much of the advice you get, both in person, and online is contradictory. It's funny when someone gives you advice on something your dogs doing that's actually a reaction to something there dogs doing that they haven't even noticed.

Walking with a Cocker Spaniel is always a stop-start affair, they always find something to sniff out. So, you can sort of excuse my indifference with every stop, he's usually just sniffing who was there last. We pretty much always walk close to waterways or bushland, so I'm always trying to at least keep him out of the taller grass, usually while saying "no buddy, there might be a snake in there".....................

So we stop for the 300th time, I say the line, but this time it was different. Something clearly had his attention, I took a closer look where suddenly it clicked and I yanked him away as fast as I could......................from a red belly black snake, cue the FECKING F.CK!

The snake was facing away from us and wasn't moving, so I thought it may have been dead, but then it started to move slowly away. So, I'd say it was slow and sleepy as its now getting quite cold, had it been mid-summer we may not have been so lucky.

We normally don't see snakes this late in the season, its always in spring and early summer. That makes it four I've come across while walking this past warm season, three with Faych and one with Olly.

Ziva earned herself some new fans tonight, while we were walking she reacted to a scent coming from an area in the edge of the farmland, I would have walked right past if she hadn't pulled me back. This boy Fizz was hiding in the long grass, he's been missing from home for weeks, and both dogs have been reacting to this area for a few weeks, they knew something was hiding in there, lucky they put some flyers out into the neighbourhood last week. When I got home I called them and told them where I'd seen him and where he was heading, and they found him within half an hour. Next was a quite emotional call to let me know they had him back home again, a little thinner and in need of a brush, but happily eating some dinner.PSX_20260430_205609.jpg

Her fixation with cats isn't always good though, she spotted a ginger cat under a car yesterday and stuck her nose under to investigate, it came flying out all fluffed up and ready to throw some paws, she totally freaked out, luckily her big brother was there to calm things down.

I hope some good KARMA finds you Dave and the dogs, that story made my day!
 
New cat, adopted him this morning after an hour long visit last weekend.

Got him 1 mile away from where DFB’s Mustang was built!

My Daughter thinks he will be Billy Storm, named from a book series she likes. I wanted to name him Paulie, inspired by The Sopranos.
