1955 Chevy Sedan Delivery - June 20th

Mike Searle stopped by Autogeek today and while he was here I had him drive his sweet 1955 Chevy Sedan Delivery into out studio so we could inspect the paint. Mike just bought this and has not even washed nor waxed it since bring it home.

The first thing we did was the Baggie Test

The Baggie Test - How to inspect for above surface bonded contaminants

What we found out is the paint is contaminated and in dire need of claying.

Next, I tested the paint to find out if it was single stage or basecoat/clearcoat and we found out it has a basecoat/clearcoat finish.

Next I polished just a small circle on the hood and what we saw in the circle I polished was a clean, bright white color while all around the circle is a dingy looking white paint. This is a sign of dirt staining or embedded dirt. See this article,

How to remove stains and embedded dirt out of paint

Below is the hood of Mike's 1955 Chevy Sedan Delivery...

Embedded Dirt or Dirt Staining
If you look closely, you can see a white circle just to the right of the hood ornament where we polished just a small section of paint. What polishing did was to remove the dirt staining to reveal a much brighter white color hiding under the dirt stained clearcoat.

And so everyone can see what a cool car this is, here's a couple of outside beauty shots... one thing for sure, after we put Mike's Sedan Delivery through our show car paint polishing process the white paint is going to simply glisten...

Thursday Night Extreme Makeovers and Show Car Makeovers

I told Mike about our Thursday night Extreme Makeovers and Show Car Makeovers. Since the paint doesn't have a lot of swirls, (I inspect the paint in the sun, looks pretty swirl free), we discussed him bringing his car back for a "Show Car Makeover". This will be coming up as soon as I have an open Thursday night date that also fits his schedule.

So stay tuned and when we put a date in concrete I'll post a sign-up thread if you live in the area and want to lend a hand creating a finish that looks more like the finish on the 1964 Chevy Delivery Truck and the 1963 Impala we recently buffed out here,

Cool. This will be a fun project.

Since I first looked at Mike's Sedan Delivery he's already taken it to a local detail shop to buff it out for a car show. I've never heard of the shop or the detailers but that don't mean anything except I either haven't met them or possibly don't remember?

Anyway, we're going to go over it again and make 100% sure it's show car worthy for this summer's show car circuit. PLUS Mike is a member of the Classic Chevy's Car Club and he's going to bring some of his car club buddies with him and from my experience in this industry there will be a lot of interest in the pads, products and tools we use, so it's all good...

Wish I could be there for that Classic !

Well ding dang... put us on your Bucket List!

I`m no expert by any means but I saw the car the other day after the detailing. It should be an early night.:buffing:

Make the drive, I drive 1 hour and 45 minutes every time I go and I love every minute of it. Cool cars every time. Mike is always bringing in sweet rides.
Italian brother

I wish I could but with a newborn and a 7 year old, the wife needs my help plus I close my shop at 4 sometimes 5 there is no way I could make it. Maybe if I was single with no kids I would go.

I hear you. I am the one that stays home with a 2 year old and a 10 month old, so this is my downtime when I go to Stuart.

Mike, I'd love to be there - would be a great start to some time off I have scheduled. Would it be a problem if I'm just a bit late? Definitely count me in if that's not an issue...:xyxthumbs:

I was fairly surprised Mike took his car to a detail shop knowing we had already discussed doing the show car makeover here. I'm going to guess he knows the detailers and trusts them.

I've seen too many "Horror Stories" over the years from people taking cars to "Detailers" just because anyone with a wash mitt and a bucket can call themselves a detailer.

I also spend a little time with Mike showing him how contaminated his paint was using the Baggie Test, which had never seen before and how his paint was embedded with dirt staining clouding the true white color, which he also didn't know till I showed him.

But hey... it's his car he can do with it as he wants...

He said he would invite the two detailers that worked on his car so it will be nice to meet these guys and see what they did for the paint.

:)

I was surprised as well especially since Robert detailed his other 55 and his dad`s 57.

Looking forward 2 being there, very impressed with you Robert and the guys , wouldnt miss it.
