Simple Corvette Engine Detail

A few weeks ago I detailed a 2012 Corvette to prep it for a local Corvette Car Show. I used this Corvette to showcase the brand new (at that time), DP Quick Coat. Here's the link to that article.

While detailing the outside, the owner asked if I could also spruce-up the engine compartment. I said, no problem. It took me about 20 minutes from start to finish. There's a million ways to detail an engine and engine bay but in most cases, unless you're prepping the engine compartment for judging at a Concours d'Elegance show, you can get about 95% of amazing results by simply keeping the process simple.

Here's what I used.

Metro-Vac Sidekick - I blew out all the leaves, sticks and debris using the Metro-Vac Sidekick.

SONAX Glass Cleaner - I used this as engine degreaser with some Cobra 530 Gray Microfiber towels. I use the fluffy size to get into tight areas and irregular surfaces. Spray on, agitate with some brushes and wipe clean.

Pinnacle Black Label Leather & Vinyl Coating - I used the Pinnacle Black Label Leather & Vinyl Coating as a dressing and sprayed it on pretty much everything, paint, plastic, metal and then used the flat weave side of the same towels I used with the glass cleaner to spread around and wipe off any excess.

Best of all, these things I used for the engine are "Staple Items" in anyone's detailing arsenal. They have multiple, multiple uses.

Metro-Vac Sidekick - Use it after washing your car to blow out side mirrors, emblems, lights, trim, edges, fuel door, etc. Anywhere water can pool. I also use it to blow-out under seats when doing interior detailing.

SONAX Glass Cleaner - The elephant in the room is to use it for glass and mirrors. Of course. I also use this as a Prep Wash for SIVs instead of a normal wash process.

Pinnacle Black Label Leather & Vinyl Coating - I use this for leather, vinyl and plastic surfaces on the inside of the car. Creates a factory new appearance without leaving the surface greasy or oily.

On Autogeek.com

Metro Blaster Sidekick - $105.00

SONAX Glass Cleaner - $13.00

Pinnacle Black Label Leather & Vinyl Coating - $50.00

:)

Also, for what it's worth,

There are 2 Metro Blaster Sidekicks on the Autogeek.com store site.

The one you see me using in all my car detailing articles, this one,

And this one,

While it can look useful, having a sling to hold the vacuum off your shoulder by your side... trust me... you'll never use it this way. It's just a tick cumbersome and awkward.

The 3' flexible hose can come in handy but the convenience of having only ONE thing to hold work for about 99.9% of anything you'll ever want to blow-out.

•Looks like that DP Quick Coat is
some pretty powerful stuff!

-(From at least the windshield to the
front clip)…that 2012 Corvette looks
very similar to our 2002 Corvette.

It creates a very glassy finish. But like all LSPs - the final results are very dependent upon the initial preps steps.

Here's another picture from the DP Quick Coat review showing how I first prepped the paint for the DP Quick Coat.
