Has anyone used Simple Green as a wheel cleaner? Is it safe? Effective? What dilution? It would be for lightly soiled wheels. TIA!

Use a dedicated wheel cleaner that is PH balanced. Stay away from SG especially on aluminum wheels.

I use it all the time. I have 2 dilutions mixed; 4:1 and 10:1, depending on need. At SG's website you can download a complete dilution for about any purpose under the sun. It's not as strong IMO as Meg's APC or OPC, my other APC's in stock, but I consider it safe for any surface. I remember one of the Sam Memmolo TV programs many years ago when they had on the show the chemist who invented SG. Supposedly, it was formulated to clean wheels without the toxicity of the common acid-based wheel cleaners. I know many of the folks here snub SG, but it's never hurt any surface I've used it on.

Yea I would just stick with wheel cleaning specific products. Simple Green stains certain materials.

Simple Green is PH balanced. It can be used to clean natural stone tiles like travertine. I have used it on many wheels & tires with no problems. It works pretty well.

I usually only use it on tires but if it gets on the wheel i dont fuss cause ive never had it stain anything except bare aluminum. If your doing lots of wheels other than your own i'd suggest picking up a dedicated wheel cleaner for most jobs. Also dont use simple green on billet parts, will stain those very bad.

If one version hits aluminum uncoated wheels, they are toast and need heavy refinishing. It will cost you less to use a wheel safe cleaner in the long run.

This.

I do not use it on bare aluminum wheels, or on hot wheels, and have had zero issues.

I much prefer using regular car wash on the wheels though, if they're not overly dirty.
