Went up to the customers work today to get his SL500 polished as its never been done. Full correction was not the goal, he said its not a show car just wants it look its best that it has in 21 years. Car was in great condition overall for being 21 years old. Other than the paint had not been waxed maybe 3-4 times in its life, overall the paint looked just swirled up from the start. Though after washing and claying it was noticeable that swirls was not the only downside to this car....luckly ended up with around 85% correction. There were a lot of deeper RIDS left in areas around the paint.
Also, dont mind the pictures...It was hard adjusting the white balance and the f-stop to get the right light to capture what I wanted. That and the preview window on the back of the D50 sucks badly...so when I thought the picture was to bright from that screen on the computer it was perfect. So most the pictures I was not taking currently because on the preview screen they looked fine.
Process:
ONR Wash
Clayed w/ Pinn. Ulta Poly Clay w/ ONR Lube
IPA Wipedown
Taped off w/ 3M Automotive Tap
Buffed:
Menzerna SIP via GG DA Speed 6 w/ LC Orange Pad
IPA Wipedown
Menzerna Super Finish via GG DA Speed 5 w/ LC Black Pad
IPA Wipedown
LSP:
Menzerna Powerlock via GG DA Speed 3 w/ LC Red Pad
Windows w/ Stoners Invisible Glass
Tires w/ Pinn. Black Oxyn Tire Gel
Before:
Inside after wash and claying...
Hood Test Area...
After:
Now this is the great part...the trunk....21 years of rarely being waxed takes its toll on white...
This is a half and half of the trunk...guess which side is the before...
After:
Now overall afters...
Outside where there was no sun...goign back next week when the weather is better to get some better shots.
