maximum potential in reaching any goal.

Very nice post.

My day job is all about getting results out of learning events through goal setting and subsequent achievements.

Make no mistake, setting strong goals that are not only achievable but attainable is hard work. The benefits to doing so however will not only help you to excel but allow you to see your progress towards achieving those goals. To that end, here's a SMART goal template to consider following for setting both short and long term goals:

In the next __ weeks/ months I will: (Describe what you will achieve)

So that: (Describe the benefits or payoff)

Indicators of my progress will include: (Evident to others)​

Once a week or so, step back and ask yourself

- What have I done to make progress towards my goals?
- What will I do next?​

Recording the answer to the above in a journal will help you reflect on your progress and next steps you may still need to take.

I'd also highly encourage everyone to enlist the help of others (peers, family members, clients) for their guidance and support on your goals and related progress.

Excellent advice. I also came from a very goal specified career and eventually developed a mind set of asking myself "what am i doing right now that is not only productive but contributing to reaching goal A or goal B etc.".

All of that can be applied very well to detailing. Thanks for the reminder and tips!
