Snow foam to wash car

Hi everyone

Hoping to get some clarification and advice as I continue to see many detailing channels on YouTube use the following washing technique with snow foam:

1. Rinse car with pressure washer
2. Fill up snow foam canon with shampoo of choice
3. Spray snow foam on car
4. Use wash mitt to wash car using snow foam on car
5. Use two bucket method to rinse wash mitt and collect more shampoo from wash bucket
6. Rinse car with pressure washer
7. Dry car - air blower or microfibre drying towel

I was always under the assumption that snow foam was left to dwell on the car to help break down any dirt and then rinsed off prior to any contact wash.

My main questions are:

- is the above wash technique safe on paintwork?
- is the above wash technique to be used only on ceramic coated cars?
- is the above wash technique used only for paint correction prep?

This snow foam wash method seems to be the most commonly used across many enthusiast and pro detailers.

Ideally I’d like to use the most effective and efficient technique, would be great to hear your thoughts and learn more.

I use a FOAM GUN. That method you have outlined above look's fine. It can be used on any shape of paint.

yes you want the soap to dwell on the vehicle. personally, i like to apply to a dry vehicle(no pre rinse). let that soap stick to the panels and dwell.
Use a good soap in your foam cannon that will help breakdown/lift debris off the surface.

next, rinse debris off vehicle. then get out your wash mitt and bucket wash. otherwise you could be smearing debris all over the surface...inducing marring.

1. foam dry vehicle and let dwell
2. rinse off foam and debris
3. bucket wash( i washa section at a time then rinse section...then repeat
4. dry vehicle (blow and/or microfiber towel)

no it is not just for coated vehicles. just beware that some soaps will stip waxes/sealants, so you may need to apply protection afterwards.
no it is not just for correction prep.

imo i only use foam cannon if the vehicle has visable debris on it and/or has been driven in anything other than on dry roads/dry weather

most of us here have different ways to get a "clean" vehicle. just choose one that suits you.

Overkill. You only really need to touch the paint for one wash. The process you outlined wouldn’t hurt but wouldn’t benefit.

You could most likely wash while foaming but i’d choose to bucket wash… not both

Pressure washing first is going to move major debris.

I prefer to foam 1st… let dwell to soften what’s on paint 1st. Pressure wash off.

Then either 2 bucket or you can foam car and wash with mitt and scrubbing in a rinse bucket on a grit guard.

I prefer to use a wash bucket with 6-10 mitts as to not maybe miss some debris on the grit gaurd and then reintroduced to paint.

If you want to go overboard this was my process

Foam
PW rinse.
Fill bucket with soap water and 10 mitts.
Grab a mitt and then also foam each panel before washing to take lubricity to the max.
One mitt per panel.
Wash top down.
Blow dry
Spot dry with Griots PFM.
Apply a QD or a sealant if needed
Nap

No buckets here. If we are talking a foam gun or even a foam cannon, foaming while whisking the multiple mitts across the paint is going to be a super safe method.

The soapy mix is going to act as a safety barrier against the dirt and the paint

This method is going to be especially useful on a really dirty car

That said, the objective is to get marr ing free results. Find a way to do that. I know I have.
