Soft Clear Coat? Help!

Recently I decided to try and paint my car. So far I have just completed the back door as a test after doing a lot of research and video-watching and I am happy with what I have come up with so far; I went to an auto shop and asked for a car clear/top coat, and I was told to get Dupli-Color Perfect Match. I did about 4 coats (the first couple were really light) over the paint (I used Rustoleum 2x). It's been about a week, and if I press my fingernail into the paint real hard, it leaves an indent. The car has been out in the sun for a few days, and though it's been a little cold recently (usually around 30F), I'd imagine the coat should have set by now... or do I have to wait longer? Does it take even more time to set? Is this clear coat not good for what I'm trying to do? I've Googled countless things to try and figure out what is going on but I have yet to find a clear answer, so I have come here. Thank you to anyone who has read this, and double thanks to those who answer!

For rattle can, a week isn't very long.

30 degrees Fahrenheit is freaking cold.

Your fingernail is hard and thin on the end.



I would wait for more time and especially if it's going to remain cold.


I do admire anyone that's willing to take on paint their own car. I've done it a few times, lots of work.

When end of last year i hit a deer with my envoy. After all painting and repair body shop told me to wait 30 days or more before touching it with wax or anything. I also work for a sign shop and we wrap cars and its the same for wrapping. We wont wrap a car in vinyl if paint hasnt at least cured for 30 days or more to allow outgassing and such. Id def do what mike suggested and wait. He is the go to so def take his advice.

duplicolor is a lacquer. rusto an enamel.
lacquer over enamel is a recipe for disaster. SOME lacquers can be sprayed over enamels but mixing them just aint a good idea. stick with one or the other through the whole process.
most enamel auto paints require a hardener. rusto spray bombs dont have that hardener

Sorry late response.

Is there another clear coat type you'd recommend to go over Rustoleum then?
