Just checking, when you say new do you mean a new model year or a new to you car? Only reason I ask is if it's new you can always tel the dealer you are unhappy and see if they can fix it.

I would look to see if it's at other places on the car maybe that could give you further clues. To me, It looks like some dealer dressing ran off the trim. My wife's Subaru had the same thing by the one mirror, I washed the car, like yours had no impact. I then clayed he spot this helped a lot. Finally I applied a light polish and the remaining stain came right off. I would think that process should work for you as well.

Looks like typical drip line coming from the side view mirror. Water/rain gets trapped in the side view mirror and slowly drips down the door. As it dries it is leaving a water mark from the minerals in the water. A finishing or medium polish would quickly remove it. There are water spot remover products that would also remove it if you do not want to polish that area.

I call that a gutter line.Everytime the mirror gets wet that's where the water will run down all the time and kinda stains it.using a cleaner wax or polish will remove that.Tahoe's have the same problem from the body side moulding and will drip for hrs causing that same promblem.on some occasions when it's bad I will use a acidic product to remove.

After every wash I blow out every nook and cranny to remove ALL water from recessed and hidden areas. I also wash out, with soapy water, all accessible nooks and crannies. Door jambs, hood and trunk lips, etc. For those inaccessible areas ( e.g. side view mirror housings), make sure you fully flush with clean water and blow them out to prevent any residual water forming those lines.

It continues to amaze me how much water remains trapped by all sorts of areas. Side marker lights, trim, door handles, license plates (not removed for just a wash), front and rear lights, front fascia vents etc. etc.

I see this a fair bit on newer cars, like yourself - from the mirrors, door handles & like GSKR mentioned, sometimes on side moldings. My theory over the years of incountering this, is - perhaps its a type of lubricant used during the assembly process, & when it rains, as GSKR pointed out, these areas are natural gutter lines, that may have some lubricant residue, & possibly why they dont just wash off. Maybe.

I had a customer who literally drilled out a bigger port for the water to escape quickly.
