My friend Melody was kind enough to send me a sample of Sonax Proline Perfect Finish, which will be known as PF for the rest of the post.

Working on a 2011 VW Jetta Sportwagen in black. I have fought this paint since I laid eyes on it. I've tried all kinds of polishes and pad combos. All have got out deeper stuff but have never finished down to zero defects. I swear this paint swirls just by walking past it.

After doing an ONR wash the previous day, I notice swirls in one area, where I assume the lady places her purse while rummaging through it.

Having recently bought some yellow Rupes microfiber pads along with the sample of PF I decided to give it a shot. My weapon of choice my trusty Makita rotary with a Dynabrade head and 5" Lake Country backing plate. There was somewhat of a difficulty getting PF out of the sample bottle, but after applying 4 dabs to the pad I was ready to go.

Spread at speed 1 before bumping it to 6. I made 5-6 section passes before I decided to wipe off and inspect. The polish wasn't broken down as much as some others have suggested (found out later on). Wiped away and the scratches were all gone. Upon further inspection I also notice the paint in the affected area was perfect (not including the factor orange peel).

From medium to heavy swirls to perfect in one try, I'm impressed.

Oh, if only I had taken photos.

Now onto the bad, and yes there is a bad side to PF. The price! Yikes $70 of 1L. If I hadn't been sent a sample I would never have considered paying that much. Having used it, I'm convinced.

Thank you for your review! I have to get myself some Perfect Finish! :)

Did you do an IPA wipe down and inspect with good lighting? Some are saying that PF fills a lot.

Didn't do an IPA wipedown, inspected in good light. I've never heard anyone say it fills at all.

I use water based polishes unless its designed as a pre-LSP stage. So no need for an IPA wipedown, IMHO.

many suggest it has fillers, no one I believe has proven it.... I have used it, like the results.

Sönax Perfect finish was made to be used with a rotary polisher. It's the speed of the polisher and the heat that it generates that makes the oils break down properly.

When you do use the Sönax Perfect finish just keep in mind what it's original use was for and how it is to be used. People that have had problems with the so called fillers in my opinion are not using the product in the right manner and it is not allowing the polish to be completely broken down like it should be.

That being said I have used Sönax Perfect finish and I love it a great deal and when used properly which it can be with a machine like the Rupes it's a great product. You just have to make sure you are breaking down the product.

I used Sonax PF on 2 black cars now, one was a Jet Black BMW and another was a black Lexus IS250. Once spread and worked in properly this product does wonders. Really good for a one step. The price is high indeed, but the bottle will last a few applications.

I like the Sonax polishes.

  • Fine Abrasive Paste
  • Perfect Finish
  • Nano Polish

They appear to be using very high quality abrasive technology.

Here's a Corvette we buffed out and only used a rotary buffer. This is just a few of the pictures, more in the actual thread.

Also note this was before Perfect Finish was introduced...

1987 Corvette Show Car Makeover - SONAX Showcase

Machine Jewelling
Next we switched over to Lake Country Gold Jewelling Pads and machine applied the SONAX Nano Polish, for this everyone stayed around the 600 to 800 RPM Range and re-polished each square inch using only light pressure while cleaning our pads often.

De-tape and Seal with SONAX Polymer Net Shield
After we removed all the masking tape and cover-up towels and wheel maskers we re-wiped any residues off the paint and then applied the SONAX Polymer Net Shield

Apply by hand
Directions on the label say to apply by hand to a small section, work in and the remove before moving onto the next section.

What polisher did you use?

Good answer Evan. Where did you get your information from?Feed back please

Isn't PF an oil based polish?

Thanka it's just been lots of reading and speaking with people about this issue.

I know Mike has an article on application if product and the use of products by manufacturers recommendations. That really what Sönax Perfect Finish comes down to it the proper application via a rotary. If you look at the back if the bottle you will see exactly how it is to be used and at what speeds. If you look at the photos Mike posted what machines do you see? The rotary and why well that's how it's to be used.

We detailers love to experiment and I can say that I do and sometimes things work great and others well can leave a bad taste of we are straying away from the official manufacturers recommendations. I remember when M105 hit the market and it was for rotary or hand application. People love it but complained when using a DA that is wasn't working like they thought it would but the reason was it wasn't intended for DA application at the time. So the same thing follows for Sönax Perfect Finish it's for a rotary at this time but I find that it can work with a DA giving that you work down the polish enough and break down the oils.

So it only fills when you don't follow the directions???

To answer some questions, Sonax Perfect Finish is water based and has no fillers. There have been rumours of fillers, so I email the company. Here is the reply-
"Hi Andy-

Thanks for emailing us.

To answer your questions...Yes, Perfect Finish is water based. And no, it does not contain any fillers or sealants. There was a rumor surrounding this on some blogs by some guys who used Easy Off oven cleaner as a chemical stripper. We tested this in Germany and the Easy Off actually removes the clear coat down to the wet sanding marks from spraying the color coating. Perfect Finish is an approved product by Daimler in their factories so there is no way it could contain fillers.

I hope this helps. All the best. Jason"

Thanks, love PF using Flex PE.
