Specific question about Yukon Denali wheels with inserts

I haven't had a single break in the weather to do some work on the exterior of our Yukon since we bought it. It's been raining or snowing for 2 weeks. In the mean time I've been doing some browsing finding out about detailing and about our new-to-us vehicle. The previous owners installed the 22" Denali wheels on the Yukon. These wheels have black inserts bolted in between the spokes of the wheel. There is also a chrome insert that can be put in the wheel if you want to buy them. I like the black.

Any way, my question is to you business detailers or someone who might own these wheels. Do I need to remove the inserts to clean behind them occasionally? I'm hoping that at least someone has dealt with these and knows if they get dirt in behind the inserts that could cause damage to the finish of the wheel eventually.

Hello,

I have have the same inserts but in chrome. I would definitely remove them at least once or twice a year. I have a coating on mine and dirt does get in there. I recognize your truck. Did you post it on the Tahoeyukon forum? If so, that would be a great place to ask as well.

Yes. I'm on that forum as well. I haven't posted about it over there yet. Your answer pretty much tells me what I needed to know. I didn't even realize until today what kind of wheels they were.

I've probably gone overboard on the research but this is the first black vehicle I've ever owned and it makes me a bit nervous. I'm picky when it comes to the appearance of a vehicle and I don't want to end up with a vehicle that looks terrible in the sunlight due to swirls.

These rims can be cleaned with the insert on, however for a deep clean my recommendation is the same as @waterman's. I would deep clean them twice a year with the insert off. Also when washing be sure to blow the wheel and insert out to ensure they are dry and prevent water sling when first driving after a detail.
