is there a list of what speed to use for the product your using?

Porter Cable Random Orbital :

polishes --- 5.5-6
waxes --- 3
wax removal --- 2.5-3

I don't polish with any speed except for 6...

BTW there is no speed 5.5 on the PC....

For a rotary... that's a whole different ball game b/c polishes react differently with the rotary vs. PC.

i was wondering what speed goes with these products Optimum "Poli-Seal", XMT Carnauba Finishing Glaze, XMT 1, XMT 2, XMT 3, Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover & Pinnacle Advanced Finishing Polish. i just want to make sure i'm using the right speeds so these products are working the way they were ment too. thanks in advance for the help.

that would be the area between the 5 and the 6 ;) :p ;)

I understand that ... but there isn't a click between the two... it goes from 5 right to 6 ... nothing in between it = no 5.5.

hahaha that's funny ;)

On the PC I guess it really depends on the product but if you use Optimum prepare to take a little longer to break the polish down. Optimum is good but with a PC it just takes longer for the polish to break down(well at least I've been told). With a rotary the Optimum is really good, this I've seen for my self. XMT on the other hand is really good with the PC, brakes down within 5 to 6 minuits.

Well that's just my opinion.

That is correct, at 5.5, the PC reacts nill vs 5. At about 5.7ish it kicks to speed 6. Anything lower than 4 is a waste on a pc, even feather light pressure on a 4" pad will stop the pad from spinning on speed 3.

I use 4 for applying my liquid wax, remove by hand.
6 for polishes....*sometimes* 5 for the polishing step, but you must use very light pressure otherwise the pad will stop.

5-6 min?! That seems like a long time, I get my optimum polishes to breakdown in 3-4 min per panel. I go (on a vertical panel) 1/2" per second, on speed 6, with some good pressure. First pass, up and down with 50% overlapping passes, then left to right for second pass, same speed 6, same hard pressure, then I lightly burnish the vertical surface up and down, speed 6, 1-2" per second. Done. Only 3 passes basically.

That sounds good Nimble, yea I see what you mean you go nice and slow and apply the pressure....mmm...good tip.

Thanks for sharing.
