Hey guys, was hoping my first post wouldn't be something of the sort but someone spilled chocolate milk on my car this morning and wiped it off.. As soon as I found out I poured a couple bottles of water on it to rinse it off but it's all I have with me. The car is a week old and I was wondering if the milk would cause any etching or damage before I make it home to wash it off properly (approx. 6 hours). I'm a bit paranoid, but I just got the car and am a little bummed. Any and all help is appreciated. Apologies for any grammar errors as im posting from my phone. Please refrain from the spilt milk jokes

I don't think it will hurt or at least not etch it where a little hand polish wouldn't bring it out. I can top that. I once forgot a gallon if milk in the trunk for two weeks. It swelled up and leaked a little. Took some time to clean but no smell it residue in the carpeting.

I think you will be ok..... at least you had water.

But my question... how the hell does someone spill milk on a car?????:bash:

It should be alright to wait six or seven hours until you can properly wash your car you might see like a milk outline but it would wash off as far as etching it would take a few days or weeks dependeing on the weather

Thanks for the quick replies! They said they thought the cap was on, but apparently not. I guess it was just clumsiness :( ... They weren't really concerned about it, as they aren't "car people".

Cowboy, 2 weeks!? I don't even want to know the rest of that story  ...fortunately it didn't explode!

Amazing how careless others can be with someone else's possesions

FWIW I am a big fan of chocolate milk

:)

First car with a milk mustache. I didn't mention spilled milk. Milk is pretty innocuous. It does have some lactatic acid in it but not much. The milk would have to be on there a long time to do any damage. I think washing it off with bottled water was a great idea and washing it tonight will take care of it. I spoke with Elsie and she said you'll be okay. I understand the comprehension when you have a new car. Take a deep breath and let this one go.

Good thing there weren't any thirsty kittens around!

Thanks a bunch, Hazcat! Its nice to have a good crowd who shares the same interests and concerns. And thanks to the others as well for including the required milk jokes and raising spirits haha...

Deep breaths Hazcat, deep breaths!

Yeah, got the groceries in and noticed only one milk instead of the two. Checked receipt and two paid for. Called wally world and they said to come get another one. Just put the single milk up front this time. Two weeks later we were getting ready to load the trunk to go to my wife's aunt for the weekend, open it up, and ewwwww. Think it had just swelled enough to leak because the trunk isn't air tight to the car. The it away, sucked it up with my wife's stream cleaner, hit it with carpet cleaner, sprayed megs odor remover, drive 3 hours with a slight bad milk smell. Leave trunk cracked when we get there, sprinkle baking soda, vacuum, hit again with odor stuff(I brought it) and by the return trip smell was gone and no stain.

milk is leaning towards the basic end of the spectrum so it shouldn't etch your paint

You should try some Promise Land, probably the best chocolate milk ever (also in other flavors like cookies and cream).

And yea, people don't seem to respect that you spent a lot of money that took you a lot of time to make on your things. Saw a lady in an old jeep resting her open door on an A7.

I think I got the bulk of it off with the water earlier today, so it didn't look too bad when I got home. There's some winter road grime on the car so I'm sure some of it was hidden. Hoses are put away for winter and I didn't have much daylight left, so I opted for an ONR wash on the affected areas and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks again for all the help and replies, I look forward to posting more on the site!

Cowboy, maybe you should let your wife handle the shopping from now on
