A co-worker keeps telling me how he cleans his car with Spray Nine. He says it makes it "shine". I never heard of someone using it on their paint before. My question is, is it safe for auto paint? Has anyone used it on their cars? He uses it a couple times a month I would say.

I just realized people might not know what Spray Nine even is. It's a multi-purpose cleaner/ disinfectant. I used it back when I worked in a restaurant to clean up grease splatter from the grill.

Hahaa.. why would he even try that in the first place!! lol

I know someone that used to use windex and paper towels on the paint this stuff happens.

I believe he said a car salesman told him about it years ago.

I didn't say anything to him about not using it, only because I didn't know about any negative affects. I honestly don't see the reason to even use it.

It will strip anything he has for protection on the paint. It has a PH of around 13.5 and will melt tree sap. It is a good grease remover that does clean, and sanitize, a lot of surfaces. I use it around the house quite a bit because of it's germ, virus, odor and mold etc. killing effect. It is a very versatile product.

He is cleaning his paint for sure but is leaving it with no sacrificial layer and open to attack from the elements.

We use Spray Nine at work to clean up our equipment if it is exposed to blood or contaminated by other body fluids. ON the exterior of a vehicle, I think not for me.

I could see him using it on the inside of a vehicle, but not the outside.

please remember ... no links to outside products and vendors !

Scott i didnt see a link other than YT. this can work in your favor as AG has better stuff on the shelf for this. I have to be honest I have been wondering abut similar typ products for the inside of my cars. As far a GP goes

Nasty stuff, another butyl based cleaner which is over kill in most cases. Always start with the least agressive cleaner, just like polishing your paint.

I think they call it "Spray 9" because it takes exactly 9 sprays in an enclosed room to make a normal healthy adult pass out from the fumes.
