Stained convertible top after using protectant

I applied 303 High Tech Fabric Guard to my fabric convertible top over the weekend, and although I thought I'd followed the instructions, I apparently did something wrong, since the next day the top was covered with dark "water stain" type stains and drip marks. I re-washed the top (albeit with just a microfiber mitt), but it didn't help. What is the optimal way to wash off the protectant so I can reapply it? Thanks for any help.
 
Odd. I slather this stuff on my top with a paint brush and it always dries perfect. It looks horrid until it dries. I use it on seats as well and have never had an issue. I shake it well first.

You used the right product right? The 303 for FABRIC tops?

I double checked, and it is the fabric guard -- (for use on outdoor fabrics including fabric convertible tops). I'm not sure what happened. I did apply it pretty late in the afternoon on a chilly day, so I thought perhaps the weather and time of day caused it to dry unevenly.

It seems like my best bet is to remove it completely and start over, but washing it with Meguiar's car wash and warm water didn't work (I didn't use a brush, though -- just a mitt). I am going to try washing it off again this week, but am wondering if there's a better product to use to clean it, and hoping to verify that I should use a brush.
 
Get RaggTopp its the best product out there for convertible tops. I won't use anything else.
 
Thanks for the advice -- I have some RaggTopp on order and hope to have it by the end of the week. As for a brush, would this be safe to use on a fabric convertible top?

All fabric protectants (Duragloss 341, 303 Fabric Guard, Scotch Guard, etc.) are best applied to a warm surface, at least 85 degrees F or warmer. When possible and applying to convertible tops, do it about mid day or noon and let it bake in the sun. When sun is not available a heat gun or hair dryer will assist in heating the area. Remember, the warmer the better. If you are having an issue with 303 Fabric Guard I suggest calling 303 and let them know you have a technical question.
 
I work for 303, I don't know what went wrong in your particular situation. Using a good fabric cleaner and a scrub brush should remove anything.
Like others have said I personally apply it with a brush/ roller since I don't like overspray on the paint. Fabric guard must be applied to clean/ dry fabric in warm temperature. As for the spots without seeing pictures my best guess is it was imbedded dirt that was not completely removed and the fabric guard may have brought it to the surface.
 
Thanks for the responses! I think I just picked a bad time to do this, what with the cold weather. I'll see if I can get back to a clean slate with the RaggTopp, and wait until after winter to try again.
 
You just sprayed it on right? That's not the proper way to apply this stuff. I spray and then wipe it with a micro fiber. Comes out perfect every time. And did you clean the top first?

Sent while I was Detailing or something related to detailing ;) or...
