Figured I would share a little project that I just started today. All of my past rides have been cut and buffed and to me there is nothing nicer than flat paint with no orange peel. So I decided to start on my 06 gto today. Went down to AG headquarters to pick up my order today of a few things and then got started.

I am using Megs unigrit 2500 sandpaper and a soft block. I did a test spot with my Makita rotary equipped with a 4-3/4 backing plate and a CCS 5.5in yellow foam pad using FG400. It cut with no problem and left a nice finish. I will update as I progress but I will be sanding for awhile between work and family time.

I got the hood/pass fender/ pass half of the roof sanded so far.

Is this the factory clearcoat? Looking good so far.

Oh I wasn't gonna lecture ya! Haha, you said you've done it in the past. I've done my vehicles also in the past, but I'm an automotive painter that has transitioned into detailing.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished project!

Sorry! LoL!!

I started in the body shop sanding/buffing cars out of the booth and detailing them when done. After 10yr I just do it on the side now. I have the typical detailers OCD. LoL!!

Looking good I see keep up the good work, and keep us posted

Good luck! Please post some finished photos when your done.. :props:

Project's looking good... hats off to you for tackling a project like this...

When I was younger I used to say,

"I'll polish the paint of a Ferrari or a Ford, doesn't matter to me as paint is paint"

I think this is a picture of a 1972 Dino Ferrari I hand wet sanded, cut and buff back in the early 1990's. I was the third guy to get the job because the first two guys sanded and buffed through in too many places to try to fix.

I started early in the morning and finished it that evening. Note all the red paint on the ground surrounding the car? This was done in a single stage urethane. I used garbage bags on the wheels and tires to keep sanding and compounding spatter off them.

Did the sanding with Nikken Finishing papers...

I think I was like 31 or 32 in the above picture...

Don't have any other picture of this project that I know of, wish I did.

Next time you're doing a "Will Call" have the person behind the counter give me a shout I'd like to meet you.

Thanks for the compliment! That Ferrari must of looked awesome. Don't think I would be brave enough to tackle a single stage job with sand paper.

I will be sure to have them do a "Will Call". I would like to meet you too. I saw your nice red truck out front yesterday when I came by. I am good friends with Rene that had the Red Jewel 5th gen Camaro. I was part of the Camaro club that came to detail fest a couple years ago. I had the black 4th gen Camaro with the blue flames.

Will Do! Hey I noticed your from Southeast Ma. I grew up in Bridgewater Ma. I moved down here to Florida back in 08 when I was 24. Check out the pic of the Camaro I used to rock when I lived up there.

Oh man, looks great. After polishing...I can't imagine. Will look insane!!!

Got all the heavy compounding done. This is just using my makita rotary with a yellow cutting pad and menzerna fg400 compound. Then washing all of the sludge off.
