Can any give advice on the most efficient/cost efficient forms of marketing when starting a new detailing business. I'm only interested in spending sooo much since this is only a part-time gig. I already have a website and have been working on Search Engine Optimization for it. That's tough as it is. I've use google ads (pay per click) but I'm afraid to spend too much money advertising in local publications when I don't know it I'll be throwing my money away.

Have you put your business on
Yahoo local
Bing local
Facebook

Most of my customers tell me they picked me over my competitors is cause I show my work and my website is easy to read.

Also, try a youtube video. IMO it is a great way to show off your work, to market as well and it is free. (Good Luck!)

^I also get compliments on the fact that I keep my website up to date and constantly add new content showing my work.

Same goes for Facebook. I make an effort to post often to keep my "fans" engaged. I also toss in a free giveaway from time to time and that always boosts my "Likes" which in turn helps gain more exposure.

Do you have an access to your website, or you have a designer for it?
I can give you some pointers. Few simple things that you need.
Post into every local citation website you can find.

I have done this for local businesses and it always produces calls.
Also you actually don't even need website for this. I wouldn't spend money on adwords, unless you promote your google business places.

I would maybe spend money on facebook advertising, but again, pay for the likes and send them to your facebook page not to your website.
You can get clicks for 1 cent if you get it right.

That's a big +1 from me.
Also, make sure that you business name, address, number, etc. is listed the exact same, everywhere you list it. Variances in your info can cause SEO problems.

I'm number one on google for my area, if you type "auto detailing springfield, mo." It took a couple years to get there. I've never used ad words or paid for any marketing besides business cards and my website. I can't possible handle any more traffic. I stay 1-2 weeks booked.

My best quality clients come from word of mouth, but that takes a couple years to build up.

What type of giveaways tend to work best for you?

I've only done a handful... sometimes it is a sample size bottle of a product (usually whenever I get samples from DI I give them away via facebook and people tend to enjoy it). Other times it is a $50 gift card that is good towards any paint correction service/paint coating service.

... I just stumbled upon Facebook's "give away policies" and apparently what I am doing (and most others that I have seen) is against the rules. You cannot use "Likes" on a post to count towards a 'nomination or vote' as well as other rules. Google it, you'll find the rules. I'm not sure how closely Facebook monitors it... I doubt my <400 "Like" page is getting much traffic for them to pay attention, but you never know.

I built this site B & B Detailing - Nashville's Professional Mobile Detailing - Auto, RV, Bus, Boat, Semi, Aircraft and I took a couple slow days and went through google guidlines and followed them. Basically that shot us up to the top with google in a month or two with any kind of detailing in nashville. I will be doing the same to my new website in a month or so to get it ready for Spring. I got tired of paying for SEO stuff - the above worked great but when you get to the top you may experience an overwhelming amount of phone calls! :buffing:

You're right, when I shot to the top, I HAD to raise my prices to avoid being swamped. Not that it's a bad thing haha

If you want, PM me with your phone number. I will call you tomorrow. I did my own design, marketing and SEO. If someone google's anything detail related in my area, we are in the top 3. We started off as a side gig but got to busy for part time. Glad to help

Thanks for all the tips guys. Some very useful advice. Some of the stuff I had started doing just prior to creating this thread, and some of it I found new and eye-opening. Already started to see results on my SEO. If I had of known of google's tips and strategies from the start, I would've been better off. Not number 1 yet and far from it, but my traffic is definitely increasing. I'll keep at it.
