Since the weather is nice here now and starting work again and would be nice to add to my car cleaning supply's I was looking at getting a steamer and extractor for the steamer was looking at the VX 5000 from all the good reviews i seen but don't know which extractor to go with maybe you guys can help me out ??

The Mytee for the money is the best price wise/quality/solution capacity.

I have a VX5000 and while I do like it, I'm really losing steam (haha) on how useful it is versus cleaner and brushes. The only thing that tips it for me is that its fantastic on leather. I'm moving over to compressed air tools in it's place.

If I did it all over again, I'd get the extractor and go compressed air. I want to really love the steamer like when I first got it but really I'm finding my practices to go heavily towards the compressed air side of things.

I use my steamer 90% of the time and couldn't be with out. I only use my extractor on really bad cars. A good steamer will save you lots of time and product. Both are needed if plan on doing this for a living. Compressed air tools will never replace a good steamer or extractor.

How are you using compressed air/tools as a substitute for steam? I mean, I understand in some instances how you can, but how is compressed air helping to get the nasty stuff out of cup holders and center consoles like steam can?

I wouldn't be without my steamer, definitely use it more than the extractor. For heavy duty stains or cleaning I will grab the extractor, and I do use it for floor mats regularly, but I use my steamer way more often, possibly the best tool for cleaning really nasty door jambs, which is 90% of cars.

I just got a sweet deal on a display model Reliable EnviroMate Viva e40 which retails for close to $1k for only $400! I was going to buy the VX5000 or the VC-3000R as they are similar in specs and performance, but the Viva tops them both by being continuous fill (no stopping to let it cool and then refilling) and I really like the variable steam pressure from 0 to 75 psi. I wasn't sure I would ever need that until I started working near the dash and I could turn it down and gently clean around gauges and vents without blowing everything all over the place. All of them are made in Italy but Reliable is the brand who makes industrial steam cleaners used by jewelers and dentists to clean or sanitize, they have a very modern and usable website, and when I emailed their customer service for a spare part I got a response the next morning.

The reason I mentioned them is that they now offer a steamer/vacuum combo which operates essentially like an extractor when you need it, vacuum when you don't need the steam, and a steamer when you don't need to vacuum. It's pretty cool and if I hadn't got such a good deal on the one I bought I might have sprung for that one.

For extractors also look at the DurrMaid, I don't know how good they are but the price point is between the unheated MyTee Lite and the MyTee Lite II. If you can afford it the MyTee Lite II is probably the best choice with heat, I don't see the effectiveness of using the unheated extractor as you are doing the same with a good vacuum and water yourself.

Just bought one of these for $420 shipped along to go with my McCulloch 1375.

I would not have another Mytee unless it was given to me. Just thinking of my Mytee Lite 2 gives me chills all the problems I had.

Tornador works well for me. Engine cleaning gun with a siphon to some APC hooked to the air compressor will clean anything out the steamer will.

I have that exact same extractor, but the plastic nozzle doesn't do well when dropped on a hard surface. I bought a metal one off Amazon and replaced it.

I also have the 1375 steamer and love it.

Cold water, 3 gal capacity, 105 cfm lift. I considered the Tempo also, but as I said had a bad history with Mytee.

I also had a the VX5000 for the mobile detailing crews and they loved them. They worked well on tight spots like engine bays, wheels, door jambs etc. The extractor (Mytee Tempo Extractor) I have is the perfect size and works as well as the larger units. I like the mobility of it much better than the larger units.
But, the extractor works GREAT on the carpet, hands down. Get the right attachments and you're pretty well set to get to all the tough to reach spots.
As far as nooks and cubby holes within the interior; I like the Tornador car cleaning gun. Most of what I use these days is through the use of compressed air. Clean, strong and gets the job done much quicker for me.
