I have a question that I've been wanting to ask but felt dumb until now. On Mike Phillipp's thread about cleaning pads on the fly he mentions using terry towels. Can anyone recommend somewhere to get good ones OTC to do this? I have three of each but I want to be prepared just in case...

Thanks in advance, sorry for making you dumber.

IMHO terry towels are a great addition to your arsenal of car detailing products. A well seasoned towel is great for wheel wells, door jams, trunks and hood. I dont use them for pads because I currently use Amish Traditions for car care.

Costco has a great selection of these, some are in the car supply isle but the real super soft ones are in the linen section.

I get mine from either Wal-Mart or whatever auto parts store I might be at when I decide I need some. Terry cloth towels are also great for cleaning leather seats. I agree with the above post, a definite must have in the arsenal.

Kohl's has some pretty good (sale) values on towels although they don't seem to do the white sale anymore where everything is on sale. As noted there is also Wal-Mart and Target.

One thing to be careful about is that generally the towels are treated with something in the manufacturing process to make them feel softer in the store, and that washes out after a few washings. So don't be fooled by the really cheap towels that feel great; they won't in the long term. Of course if you are just using them for pad cleaning and not touching the car with them it probably doesn't matter.

PS Another great source of terry towels is to convince your wife/girlfriend/mother she needs new towels and then you can take the old ones off her hands.

Try a local motel or hotel for old towels they no longer can use. Most turn these into cleaning rags. A friend of the family calls me now and then when they save up a plastic bag full of these. They come in handy when a microfiber isn't called for and work great for me when cleaning a pad on the fly.

DANG!!! Thats a great idea!!!!

I got the jumbo pack from BJ's and they did NOT work well for cleaning pads on the fly. They left lint embedded into the pads and the only way I could see it is if I took my pad cleaning brush and brushed my pads. I went to target and got two good hand towels. I haven't used them yet but I don't think they'll leave as much lint on the pads. I eventually will break down and pick up a pad washer.

I use to get Martha Stewart hand towels at Kmart when I needed a supply, pretty good quality.

Now I get them at the gym I work out at just because it's so convenient, the brand is Martex I believe.

Plus, the only towel that I use to dry tires since they pick up black crud. Saves the mf's. Keeps the little trapped H2O from slinging dressing.

I think that was really what I was getting at, a towel that won't break down when cleaning the pad and get on the pad. Basically a towel that won't make things worse...

We don't have a Costco nearby but I do have a Kohl's and Target about a mile away...Thanks again all
