Well heres the deal. Doing a favor for my colleague and am polishing his brother's late 90's red metallic Ford Taurus. The swirls were BAD. There was no measuring pad combos and whatnot, this was bad stuff. I brought out the yellow pad and optimum hyper compound. Scrubbed it in at around 1500rpm with the yellow pad. It certainly brightened up the surface and removed some swirls, but after multiple passes, I just couldnt get them out.

What should I do?

Im thinking of going to wool pads. Should I try some new products while Im at it? Ive been thinking 105/205 which always seems to be like Jesus in a Bottle.

Thanks for any suggestions. Im going to get a message or something.:buffing:

What pads are you using? Have you tried M105 with the foam pad yet?

I dont have 105, thats why I was thinking to buy it. I tried Hyper Compound with yellow after OC with green and orange didnt do too much. They like sprayed this car with liquid steel.

I thought you said you had 105 since you posted in another thread about how to use it, maybe that is why you posted incorrect information about the use of 105.

HAD it. I just dont know about this paint. Im just stumped.Maybe where I need to step up to wool? Think if I can get a picture, you can give me an opinion? Reason is is that Im low on funds from buying the FLEX and some other supplies. My 105 has run out. Im just trying to use what I have instead of buying more. But I will get more stuff if I have to.

You never know, you might need to step up to wool or maybe lack of experience.

Ryan, the paint is prob just really hard. You will most likely have to hit the area's with multiple passes to get the desired effect. You can certainly go with wool if you have it. Either way work the hyper compound until its sufficiently broken down and then reapply some more and more if necessary etc until you get the result you are happy with. That is why Hard Clears are such a pain, they take alot longer to correct than softer clears. Keep at it! Good Luck!

Thanks, I appreciate it. It really is a beautiful color, I definately will do my best to finish it. I just always get on edge. I am new to hyper compound to I will work with it longer. The stuff just doesnt stop working! Thanks again Conan. That may have been where I was faltering. I was scared to keep working it too long.

You are going to have to get rid of all that dead paint, then start working on the fresh stuff that you get to. With the rotary you should go to wool if you need a pad any stronger than orange. Get a wool pad and work the paint with some 105, you still may need to make several passes though. 105 is going to be your best bet, if you have some power gloss that will work also but it will dust alot. Your optimum just doesn't have what it takes that the other two I mentioned have. Also use a little more heat and that will speed up the process. I have IM but so many people have blown it up I really don't use it anymore.

Thanks Dana. I will send a couple pm's then. I don't want to add to the IM blowup.
