Besides ipa. What is another economical wax remove. One used before a ceramic coating application
Thanks

What’s your problem with IPA? It certainly is the most economical, any other dedicated wax remover like Carpro eraser is going to cost you more money.

Feynlab rinseless wash used at a "stronger ratio" will do the trick for sure. Then you've got a nice RW to use in the future with the leftover amount, just follow the CORRECT amount for RW use

I’m curious why you want an alternative as well

I’m not arguing, just curious

I have heard a couple of “YouTube pros” drone on about how IPA can soften clear coat and make it fail and do all kinds of horrible things

Then I see Jim White use it and I think

Also Car Pro LIFT is a pretty strong wash and I'm sure if you double the recommended ratio it will remove a "lowly wax" without a problem. Once again with the amount left over you've got a strong pre-wash that will remove road film/etc to bring back your coating qualities (if your going that route) Gyeon Restart can do this for you as well and although I haven't used it to strip anything I can tell you that when using at recommended ratio makes my paint bead like crazzzy

Gyeon Restart should be used by anyone with a coating, ceramic or graphene, doesn't matter...it's THAT good because it just flat out works, period

Product of the Year

When I saw the name of the thread I thought there was a question about Griot's Garage foaming Surface Prep, which actually strips old Surface protection. I will say that on my car with its "50 layers" as my buddy Derek0609 says, it hasn't stripped it but rather removed the layer of road film and any other "film". Now like in my other posts here I'm using CarPro Lift, Gyeon Restart and Griot's Garage foaming Surface Prep in the suggested ratios but I really believe doubling the ratio will net you the results your looking for to remove waxes

I saw a video last week where Ivan Lacroix (Sp?) said 1/3 Acetone/ 2/3 Blue Windex (The kind with Ammonia?) makes a great prep wash.

Im currently using megs m122. Liking it, no complaints...other than the slight vinegar smell lol

I've had success with Mother's CMX Surface Prep. I find that it gets paint crystal clear clean and ready for whatever is coming next.

A good watch.

That was interesting

Paul A mentioned that concoction in a separate thread

I’m not doing coatings, I just want to make sure every bit of filler or lubricant or residue is removed after correcting so I’m seeing the true “what you see is what you get” so I guess any name brand prep wipe will do what I need

Yvan’s opinion regarding IPA or alcohol as essentially worthless is interesting, especially considering how many top tier paint correction and protection pros use itn

I know his training is firmly rooted in the chemistry aspect of detailing products after all his years with OPT

To sum it up I think I know less now than I did when this thread started

Black Fire paint prep has worked well for me the two times I use it. It goes on sale for 30-40% off sometimes on BF or AG website.

Got a gallon for for $36.

See alot of people using and liking Kleen Strip Prep All. I have not used it.

Thanks for the suggestions

Being in Hawaii I always have to balance what I can get shipped, how much it costs and shipping costs

I don't always get the product I would prefer based on those 3 criteria

I will keep using my IPA mix for now and keep looking for options

Acetone and windex. Sounds like a inexpensive option. I’m guessing this is ok on the paint. The guy seemed to know what he was talking about

I use it. I also use OTC Optimum paint prep. Works fine.

Yvan was once one of the top guys at Optimum Polymer Technologies until he left the company and is now retired. You will see him on many of the older rag company videos. He has been around a long time.
