Hi guys!

My wife has a black 2016 Nissan Rogue. We have light swirls in the paint, and I was wondering what the best way to hide and or remove them would be. I don't have a DA, so I would be doing this by hand. I have quite a few products, but I am more than willing to buy more. I thought about Klasse AIO, but I didn't know if that would serve my purpose or not.

What would work best for black paint? I thought about applying some Optimum spray wax as well.

Anyway, I am worried about using/not applying the correct products. When we first got the vehicle, I used Megs Scratch X 2.0 to remove a few small scratches and ended up with holograms. I then tried a lighter polish, and ended up with even more. Nonetheless, it was a nightmare, and it required professional attention.

Last, what are all of your thoughts on foam friction car washes? I've heard that it's better and safer than cloth? Is this true?

Thanks guys!

Instead of spending money on more compounds and polishes I would invest in a DA a backing plate and some pads. It will save you a lot of time and energy.

IMO get a DA and learn how to remove the swirls that way. You are not going to get anything accomplished by trying to get rid of swirls by hand. Especially black paint. You even stated the problems you had trying to remove swirl marks with your previous experience. I would look into spending about $150 - $300 into a DA with the correct products and get Mike Phillips book on how to do a show car detail.

Your current method of removing swirls by hand will actually cost you MORE in the long run as well as more headaches. Optimum Spray Wax is just a maintenance type of product to keep the LSP product you have to last a little longer.

Your Nissan paint is considered a "soft" paint. Scratch X 2.0 by hand will do more damage then help. So again, if it were me invest $150 - $300 into a DA with the product necessary and do the job right the 1st time. The way you want to do it will only make it worse especially with Black Paint.

I compounded my first car by hand when I was in high school, get a DA. Lol.
Light swirls, i'd use something like sf3800 or so and adjust which pad you need. Compound is most likely going to be too aggressive for your soft paint as mentioned. I have a jet black Lexus, extremely soft paint, and 3800 is my goto with a light polishing pad and DA.

As for washing, I mean, that can be debated all day. Personally, I use 2 bucket, 2 wash mitts (1 upper half 1 lower) and ONR wash & wax. I also use the same ONR, diluted, as a drying agent. Scratch free.

DA and Griots Perfecting Cream. My official favorite. it will end up saving you money in the long run.
