Tackling Black Plastic

I just wanted to double check what I've been gathering from reading things here and elsewhere.

I bought my AG stuff with the purpose of taking care of my new Subaru Outback. One thing I forgot to consider when ordering was the large amount of black plastic on the OB.

While this one is not mine, you can see the plastic around the wheel wells, along the bottom doors, fairly high profile roof rack, and on the rear bumper.

My approach this year was going to just be Klasse AIO and Collinite 845, and that is what I bought. Going on by hand unless I give in and order a DA and put this off another week. From what I've read, it appears both should be OK on this plastic, but wanted to specifically ask to make sure before I go make more work for myself this weekend. I'd like to protect it since those spots will take the brunt of the grime/salt that will get kicked up onto the car.

Also, I wanted to make sure there is no harm in claying plastic, or is there any value in doing it either? Thanks for the help, I've tried to refrain from the typical "help me, I know nothing" posts, but this is one thing I want to be sure about.

I can't see an advantage claying plastic and possibly leaving deposits behind.

For plastics CarPro DLux is awfully tough to beat and for tires CarPro PERL...

These products can be interchanged but I wouldn't use DLux on tires but rubber trim is not an issue...

I've never considered claying the black plastic on my swp '09 OB 3.0R. I've always used the same sealant I use on the paint (Duragloss 111) without any staining problems. Although I've never used it, from what I've read, KAIO is just as safe (someone will correct me if I'm wrong). I keep the plastic looking new (4 yrs so far) by rinseless washing and alternating between Duragloss AW and Adams QD as I dry.

Thanks for the input. I've read that the 845 is plastic safe too, but wanted to make sure. Maybe I'll check out the DLux on my next AG order. For now, I just wanted to get some wax on the Outback before winter, and I'll be heading to Europe for two weeks after Thanksgiving, so between trip prep and general housekeeping, I'm running out of time.

I'm pretty sure Collinite will stain the black plastic trims if not masked.

I have used 845 on smooth plastic trim. It works great for protecting! But I finally got around to applying CarPro DLux to some trim and this stuff rocks! I was really nervous of messing up the application but I just went for it. It was super easy and came out fantastic. It beads water like no other.

solution finish has been holding up and cut through wax on my black plastic in my experience.

Another vote for CarPro DLux since it is made specifically to protect plastic, unlike traditional paint sealants.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll put this off and order some DLux, and maybe a DA for next weekend. As the first new car I've actually purchased (although my wife drives it), I want to keep it nice.

Rider mentioned worrying about the application of DLux. What exactly could be tricky about it? It looks pretty straight forward on the thread I read. My only worry now is seeing that it needs 24 hours to fully cure. I'm not sure I can keep the car on the shelf for that long.

Me worrying was just the fact of the whole semi-permanent deal. Like what if it comes out uneven, they how will I get it off? But being the first coating I have applied it was super easy.

On the bottle it explains it cures within a couple hours. But if water is not wiped off the trim within the 24 hour cure period water spots will form.

You will love your Subaru. I just purchased a 2012 Forester and a 2012 Impreza. My 4th and 5th Subaru respectively.
