Here are a series of shots of my car.
The bumpers & wheels have not been done so no commenting allowed.
The car looks ok from a few feet away.
The hood has some dents that will not come out, so ignore them.
The final shots get alot closer and you can see some of the stuff that I am not successful at correcting.
Are these scratches too deep to remove with DA and Menz Compound - yellow pad ? They have not worked for me.

#1 The full monty

#2 Some reflections

A couple of side shots, the car is black but the reflections add their own colorations.

Any advice ?

those look pretty deep

honestly, if your daily driver is black, you can drive yourself nuts trying to achieve perfection and it's going to last for that first drive and then you'll be back in the garage knocking yourself out again.

In a nutshell, taking a halogen work light to within 2 feet of a black daily driver and expecting to see perfection is just a recipe for frustration. Don't do it!

Holy crap, who sat on your hood?? As you said, the car looks great from a few feet away, and as embolism said, you can drive yourself nuts...so I'd just stay a few feet away and stay happy!

If you can hook your fingernail in those scratches they are to deep to correct safely (they do look deep). You would need to be very careful and have a paint thickness gauge to reall attempt to get them out. I'd just polish them the same as the rest of the car and call it good!:props:

Ha, if I told you what happened to the hood I would have to resign from the forum.
It actually looks worse in the photos. Real life it is hardly noticeable..

I think I am finally getting it through my head to leave well enough alone.
I have been so obsessive that i do 5 stage polishes and as embolism pointed out it looks good when I pull out of the garage but by the time I get back home it needs a new detail !

It is hard to settle for daily driver detail level after seeing all of the magnificent work the guys do on this forum. But chasing perfection on a Jet Black daily driver just may be beyond my patience level.

Embolism, are you a diver ?

That is my biggest concern, I have no idea how thick the clearcoat is and I have worked the finish over a few times pretty well with Menz Powergloss and a yellow pad, so I am not going to push my luck any further.

Really?? Going to leave us hangin??:poke:
I apologize in advance if this post doesn't work right...new to this.

Ok, I spent about 4 hours working on the hood in my garage with the door open so I had some daylight.
The hood looked fantastic. I was psychologically ready to enter it in a Concours car show and dead tired as well.
But a job well done needed to see the light of day.
I pulled it out of the garage and it looked very mediocre and had tons of marring and other stray rids going on...
So frustrated I beat the crap out of the hood with my fists.
Who knew that the dents would never come out.
$1,000 to replace the hood and have it painted.
I guess it showed me who was boss...

Oh damn...I totally understand. I could see myself doing that. It has to suck to be reminded of that so often!

The car looks great by the way...other than you how many people are going to look at the paint as closely as you? I know imperfections suck...but reality if you don't point them out no one will notice.
I'm glad to see some of these posts about black cars before I tackle my wifes Acura...

Have you thought about a PDR guy to fix the dents on the hood? Your car looks better than 99% of cars that are six years old.

I did discuss it with a body shop guy and he felt that they could not be taken out. But I have not spoken to those companies that advertise dent removal.. it may be worthwhile...
thanks..

To a lot of us, detailing is therapeutic. When I'm frustrated, I take my G23 to the range. Sad to see you damaged your car over it. :(

Sounds like you need some lights in your garage or at least a decent tripod, and pair that with a Brinkman. I can actually catch more defects with that combo that the sun will show.

Yes, thanks..
All part of the learning curve..
.40 caliber, now that would really take care of that unruly hood !

Owning a firearm is not for everyone

If I might suggest the OP take up growing flowers or something...
