I have a truck coming up and it needs to be compounded and polished before being waxed....i did a test strip to see how much paint would come off on the bonnet ... and alot of paint did in fact come off.... is it ok to keep using the same bonnet even if alot of paint is coming off on to it?

When your pad starts "sticking" to the surface you either need to spur the pad or get a new one

Autogeek sells a toothbrush looking thing that works great on foam pads (from what I understand). For wool pads you can use a flathead screwdriver or a metal pad spur (be sure you have a firm grip)

Hey thanks for the reply ... I use microfiber bonnets is it possible to do the same to them ?

Microfiber bonnets or microfiber pads? Big difference

If your using microfiber bonnets, no would be my answer

As a matter of fact, I would say no to microfiber pads as well. Those things are tender enough already. A pad spur/screwdriver will prove detrimental to the life span of the pad IMO

Anything else?!?!?!?

Yes they are bonnets not pads ... I was just concerned be because I did a test strip applying by hand and a lot of paint came off on my towel

Your a better man then me if you can keep those bonnets from flying off the backing plate

Sounds like you have single stage paint (or a bad case of clear coat failure) Its totally normal to see paint transfer while polishing/waxing a single stage paintjob

What does the surface look like on the area you've already polished, better/worse?

Yeah it's a single stage paint ... The section I did is unbelievable night and day ... The guy who's truck it is has had it for a while and before I started detailing again I remember thinking to myself "he's past the threshold of salvage" ... So I'm pretty excited about it ... I just don't wanna loose all my profit to having to go get extra packs of bonnets lol

Thats great!

Do you have at least 2 bonnets?!?

What you could do is rinse out the bonnet when it becomes loaded, squeeze out as much water as possible and hang in the Sun to dry

You should invest in a quality DA and Pads as soon as possible

Anything else?!?

those black lines streaking accross the shiny portion are reflections of the power transmision lines above his house in the street....they are not scratches

i will try that .... it is supposed to get up to at least 80 degrees so it should dry .... yeha i have like 5 ... but i'm doing a sick mustang the next day and i want a nice clean one ... yeah i'm gonna get the porter 7424 i guess it is .... i need it bad

When you've got the job completed you should title your Click-n-Brag thread "Power Lines on Trunk"

J/K man.

Just keep rotating the bonnets through a rinse cycle. No need to use any kind of soap. Just rinse, squeeze-out and dry

You could even throw them in your clothes dryer, but your next load will smell like wax

7424 will prove very usefull It will pay for itself in no time

I mix in 2 tablespoons of 105 during the rinse cycle. Helps keep the mosquitoes away ;)
