The area I live in has road maintenance workers use a large amount of loose tar to fill pots holes, which results in tons of tar getting on our cars. Our '16 Outback, which is silver, gets decimated with this stuff. I have been using a tar and bug remover, but it is still very difficult to remove the tar. Is there any product that works well to get rid of this tar? It took forever the last time I did a "quick" wash to get the car clean.

Stoner Tarminator is one good option.

Stoner Tarminator - I usually let it soak the tar a bit... it will literally drip off sometimes.

Stoners Tarminator in for 2nd vote. It's cheap and can pick up at your local auto store. Just don't use it on any vinyl or unpainted plastic. Otherwise spray on and let sit for a few MINUTES then come back and wipe off. I usually use a mesh sponge that is sprayed (soaked) with the Tarminator so it helps lubricate the pad a little while wiping off.

•Mineral Spirits
•3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner
•CarPro Tar-X (where available)
•Stoner Tarminator Bug & Tar Remover

•Reminder(s):
-Allow the solvents in the above, and
other, tar removers enough time to
perform their appointed duty.

-"Fast acting" tar removers, more than
likely, contain some of the solvents that
have been deemed to be more hazardous
to humans, the environment, etc.
(They can't be very good for use on
vehicles either, IMO.)

I recommend Tarminator as well. I would also heed Bob's warning about these products. Wear gloves, eye protection, and dispense in a well ventilated area. Especially since you're going to be using it so frequently.

3M GPAC as Bob mentioned above. Works wonders.

Here is another vote for Tarminator. Great stuff.
you just spray it on, and the tar literally starts to drip off.
For more stubborn spots, just let it dwell for a bit and everything just wipes off.

Recently used some 3M cleaner on a wheel to get some glue off (balancing weight). But I noticed how good the wheel looked in that spot. Then sprayed the entire barrel. Huge difference. I had no idea how much tar or other sticky stuff was on my wheels. I need to de-tar more frequently.

So after you (Bob) scared the crap out of me last week when mentioning hydroflouric acid in some wheel cleaners last week, I'm now a little paranoid and am checking SDS sheets more often. Toxipedia seems to be a good source.

SDS sheets for some of these bug/tar removers are easy to find, others not. Just saw that Duragloss 471 is a tar remover. Will have to try it and see how it compares. Guessing not in the same class a Tarx and Tarminator since it hasn't been mentioned.
