Anyone else here use cotton terrycloth towels to dry and clean their glass? There seems to be so much talk about microfiber on virtually everything, but I have never found anything that removes the thicker residue on glass than a repurposed cotton hand towel. Even the final buff seems to look better with terrycloth.

One of my next projects is to get a coating on my windows and would like to make sure they're prepped properly.

I’m ready to try it again.

I’ve yet to find a microfiber that will not lint. PFM with their loop design are good.

Whatever happened to the huck towel craze?

They are 100% cotton and supposedly low lint/no lint

They were all the rage a year ago

I like loop or waffle microfibers for glass as far as scrubbing power and no lint go

I've stated many times on this forum that I prefer cotton terry cloth on glass and that is what I use 90% of the time. Sometimes though, there are stubborn films that microfiber does a better job on. In those cases, I will still use a cotton terry for the final wipe.

Like John U said, every microfiber I have tried on glass leaves microscopic lint behind. Waffle weaves may be the exception, but I never really liked waffle weaves.

Same is true on paint. Most microfibers, some worse than others, will leave some lint behind. You just can't see it unless you are working on straight black.

i have a theory, as much as i try to mitigate lint and dust appearing on black paint, it is the bane of my existence...but I've come to terms with it

as extensively as I've tried to mitigate dust, i can come to only one conclusion

my frikken mad skills at making black look so damn good actually creates a mirror portal into another universe...it happens when you achieve an exceptionally reflective mirror like finish

the dust is coming from an alternate universe, nothing I can do about that <shrug>

Paint manufactures need to come up with black dust metallic paint. Not only will it look like dust, but blend in with live dust.

The problem that I have with microfiber window towels are that they never work as well after the first wash. Because of this I use cotton exclusively.

I've been using medical towels since I was a teenager washing windows. That's all the window cleaners use. Every janitorial supply house in your city will carry them for 50 cents each used. Or you can order a dozen from Amazon for cheap. When I transitioned into detailing I found they worked way better than Micro on interior and is all I've used since. I have never brought this up since everyone is using these expensive Micro's. I guess nows as good of a time as any and I also never want to start a thread on this as well:( NOW I'M REALLY GOING TO LET THE CAT OUT OF THE BAG! I always use chamois when drying:wowwow:

Of course follow up with a micro but that's it!

Have all these pretty towels I spent tons of money on and rarely use them:(

So, detailing isn't hard enough already?

You have to bring particle physics and quantum entanglement into the picture?

it was a simple deductive conclusion drawn by applying Occam's Razor....very few variables and entities involved, i'm talking about a simple transfer of small particulates

If this conversation is going to continue I will need to get my pocket protector and my slide rule…

I had a customer last month wanting me to use newspaper. We damn near came to blows over this

I've used newspaprer in the past... way past... like 1970s past. As best as I can remember, it worked pretty well.

I've tried newspaper before with not that impressive of results. Makes a big mess, plus where am I going to find newspapers?
I entertained what he had to say, then grabbed my cotton towel. Was waiting on him to tell me to hand wax and let it bake in the sun (like my father would do).
This guy was old school even beyond me

Was just discussing with Mom about her use of newspaper to wash the windows on the house! Every fall we'd burn leaves in the yard and wash the windows.

Just yesterday I noticed lint IN the Cquartz Lite I applied to the top of my trunk - only on the right side, which was juts the one coat. The center had two coats, and the left had two coats topped with Gliss. I was removing it anyway, but that's something I've often wondered.

This never happened with Ceramic Pro, even though those super plush pink towels they sell to remove the coating lint like crazy on their super glue like coating!

Thanks for all the input. It was just with all the MF talk I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention (in my short time here) anything about using a terrycloth. Personally, when I do my windows the last towel to touch the window is a terrycloth towel.
