I did a full detail on my black mustang a couple of weeks ago: M105 as needed, M205, Black Hole Glaze and Megs Gold Class. I want to try BFWD which I just got. I considered using 85rd before the BFWD but I'm also thinking about not polishing any more as the finish looks pretty good to my eyes. If I decide not to polish, what would be best to remove the wax? IPA mix, mineral spirits, Dawn Ultra, Paint Prep?

Best way would be CG citrus wash at stripping dilution

Another would be to spritz some OPC @ 3:1 on a panel then wash it with regular car soap

Paint prep is good but there are cheaper and faster alternatives imo

no way I would let ipa anywhere near a black car especially
 
OP: I assume you stated the products you have on hand, so instead of suggesting something you'd have to go out and buy, I'd personally go with a Dawn wash. I don't think you need Dawn Ultra (not sure what the difference is). If it were me, I'd wait until I was ready to wash the car and move forward with Dawn and then the BFWD. Keep it simple.

I don't know the durability of the Gold Class wax to Dawn or CG Citrus Wash and Gloss. Dawn is cheaper but some report it to dry the paint and you're not going to condition the paint with a glaze. I know that CGCWG at the wax stripping dilution seems to remove OCW, Fuzion and a few other waxes/sealants that I've used. Paint feels clean.

OPC at 1:3 seems to strip the waxes and sealants that I use. It's my favorite APC and seems safer while getting the job done than other things I've tried.

I also don't know if BFWD is finicky about prewax cleaners. If I remember correctly, they had a cleaner/conditioner that they recommended when I thought about buying the sealant. I've used a few different prewax cleaners with DGPS, Fuzion, OCW and other waxes and had no problems at all.

If you have a prewax paint cleaner, it should remove any wax, condition the paint and enhance the gloss.

I don't care to get into MS vs IPA but I kind of prefer MS even though some say it leaves a residue. I had issues with IPA and black paint. The prewax cleaner was my solution.

Good advice given here Mark....per Mr.Phillips': K.I.S.S.:)

I believe the UltraDawn has anti-bacterial ingredients, moreso than 'regular' Dawn. It can double as a dish washing liquid and a anti-bacterial handsoap. Still a good choice for "stripping"....meanwhile keeping your hands germ free!:D

I'd would suggest using these, or other LSP removal products, prudently, though....for 'stripping' every now and then, never as a substitute for a regular car wash sessions with car wash shampoos, and, polishing.

As to pre wax cleaner, I was under the impression that a pre wax cleaner removed oils left over from polishing and that to remove wax I needed to use a paint prep. Can I get away with a pre wax which is much cheaper?
 
pre wax is probably not strong enough. Then again, it is only gold class wax

best and cheapest of the choices in your original post is dawn at 2oz per gallon
