Hi again fellow geeks.
Here is the 2nd installment in a series of reviews on WW's QD's, SS's & SW's.
Here is the link to the first: QD's, WW's, SS's & SW's a long series of reviews
And now Run Run is going to give you the 4 1 1 on: Griot's Spray On Car Wash
GG's Spray On Car Wash is a waterless wash that can also be used as a clay lube. I'll also go as far to say Spray On Car Wash is a sleeper like quite a few other Griot's Garage products.
Griot's Garage is kind of sort of more or less a catalog company. If you've been on their mailing list or knows someone on that list then you may have seen the nice, upscale looking catalogs that shows such nice, clean, neatly organized garages with beautiful Ferraris, Maseratis and classic Jags gracing their pages. For a long time these catalogs gave the impression of "this stuff is for the wealthy". Although their catalogs haven't changed over the years it seems that GG has expanded their customer audience. You don't have to be one of those who attend the concours show in Catalina or Pebble Beach and you don't have to own a six figure classic or have a garage that looks like something out of the imagination of Norman Rockwell to use or be able to afford their products. In fact I now see some of their products in Advance Auto Parts stores.
GG Spray on car wash is a bright green in color and smells like candy. One whiff and you'll say to yourself "I gotta have something sweet to eat". It gives it's user a very nice aromatic experience. I used it on my very dirty DD after driving my son to camp in the Berkshire mountains where some of the roads weren't paved and just dirt. The car came home very dirty.
Since this is supposed to be a waterless car wash product I thought this was the perfect opportunity to give it a shot. When you spray it on I guess because of it's lime green color it looks kind of thick, although it's no thicker than any other WW or QD on the market (it could be for all I know). When spraying a WW I like to use it liberally because there needs to be enough product to encapsulate the dirt on the panel so it can be gently swept up and wiped away. This product looks like it's doing just that.
Once I wiped it away with my MF towel I noticed that it had a nice gloss. You can see the difference here.
Griot's doesn't make claim that Spray On Car Wash will provide beading, slickness or a layer of protection but I was curious anyway. So I sprayed plain water on the panel to see how clean it was and would the panel bead.
What a nice surprise, not only did it bead but when I wiped it dryit was slick as well.
As with my test on Megs Final Inspection I wanted to see how Spray On Car Wash would do in the cold so again I froze about 3oz in a jar for 2 days.
Before
Frozen
Thawed
It seems as if it lost just a little of it's composition and just got a little diluted after being frozen. It looks like the water separated toward the top of the jar, however it looks as if it could still be used.
I was very surprised to see that it beads and has so much slickness. It may streak a little if you use it in direct sunlight but can be buffed out easily. It even looks like a good clay lube when you spray it on the panel so I clayed a section of the hood I can say it has a good glide when claying but at $42.99 (at AG) a gallon for a clay lube well, you know the rest...
Would I buy it again?
Yeah, I would but I wouldn't use it like I would ONR. I wouldn't want to buy it too frequently.
In what application would I use it?
After a hard days work, a long commute and I need aromatherapy while I wipe off light dust. LOL
If you want a pretty decent product and don't mind the cost-to-application ratio, Spray On Car Wash is a nice product to buy.
And that's the 4 1 1 on Griot's Garage Spray On Car Wash.
