Hey All,

Figured I would share that I lost one of my dogs a few days ago due to health problems, and it has hit me pretty hard. I am man, so obviously I attempt to hide my emotions and be sane in times of heartache. My dog was 17 years old, and was part of a very loving family. He was still playful and acted extremely young until we had to put him down. I didn't know there was even anything wrong with him until we brought him to the vet and he told us he had liquid in his lungs, a heart murmur and his rear leg joints were bone rubbing on bone. Harley never acted as if he ever even had these issues (besides the weak back legs), and like I said before he was always playful and vocal. I am extremely sad to see such a wonderful pet leave me like this, but I will stay strong.

R.I.P. Harley June 22nd, 1995 - September 4th, 2011.

I've been a dog lover all my life. More often than not, these animals become more than just pets, they become a family member. They are there through good times and bad, they have personalities and bring countless years of joy and happiness to us. They never complain!

It's not easy loosing a family member and although they are gone, they are not forgotten...

Sorry for your loss...

Bobby,
I appreciate your response. Also, you're a valued and well respected member here on the forum, so this means a lot to me!

Thanks,
Andrew

Sorry for your loss. I had to put down my resuce Greyhound last summer, I had him 13 years aqnd it was beyond hard. I'll be the first to tell you that you did the right thing. I waited way too long because I could not do it and he suffered. He had a spine issue which weakened his back legs and it was brutal till the end for him. I still feel bad about letting him go 6 months too long. Take care and hope things settle down for you soon.

I feel your pain, we recently went through the same thing. Very sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear of your loss.

I have no pets at this time....been hard for me to get over the loss of my pup (Sheltie), like losing a best friend. Just feels like there's an empty place in my heart that can't be filled by acquiring another pup at the moment.

I'm sure you have similar emotions.

Bob

Thank you all for your support. At a rough time like this it is much appreciated!!

After 17 years thats a big part of your family! I am very sorry to hear of your loss and wish you the best.

So sorry to hear of your loss. They are family to us dog lovers.

I so hope that there is an ounce of truth to the story of the "Rainbow Bridge". I read it often when thinking of my dogs that have passed. It's beautiful.

Brother, I can feel your pain...about five years ago I had to have my Chow-Shepard
mix put down....She was 17 yrs old as well...I had tears streaming from my eyes as I carried her into the Vet's office....We miss her still...She will always be apart of our family.

On a brighter note, about 2 months before having to put "Lucky" down, we came home from vacation to find a kitten underneath our old storage shed...My wife fed her "Milk-on-a-stick" that is what she called it, and I eventually coaxed her out of her hiding spot. She has been apart of our lives for the past five years...

We have recently added Manny Cat to the family. He came up about two months ago, beaten up and infected...We took him to the Vet and got him healthy. Now, he and Kiki Cat put on a show for us each night!!!

Pet's give us so much pleasure and companionship, it's no wonder we include them in our family!!!

I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Thank you for sharing your story, as my dog got older I adopted a Rotti-Shepard mix to keep him company. They got along great, and now "snipes" the rotti mix wheeps for his best buddy. This is why I love this forum, so many stories to help each other cope with different things.

Thanks again all!!

Your Rottwiller is a beautiful animal...I could imagine he would be pineing (sp) over the loss of his bud.:(

Very Sorry for your loss. I'm an dog lover (we have 4), I've had a dog since I can remember and it's always a sad time when they pass.
Think of all the joy and happiness Harley brought you and remember, he is in a better place and still is watching over his best friend.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your family member and best friend. I understand.... When I lost my Missy it was the worst day of my life... No need to stay strong immediately after losing a true friend and companion. Mourn your loss and then know that your friend is in a better place with no pain and focus on the good times allowing the pain to subside over time.

Your Rottie needs mourning time as well and it should be taken seriously. You can take a pamphlet from your vet that expains how to handle things for other animals to allow them to grieve but stop them from becoming depressed long term.

It truly breaks my heart to hear about the loss of your little buddy. My wife and I dont have children so our dogs mean everything to us. My oldest is at the vet as we speak getting a biopsy and probably has cancer. I have a feeling I will be posting a similar thread in a few days.

Let me sign off before I start gushing tears again and do know that the Porsche Pilot family is thinking of you.

Thank you for all of your kind words at this sad time for me. Cutter, CeeDog, Porsche Pilot and the rest of you, much thanks!! I can't express how your words truly help me cope with this.

You sure have my sympathies.
After I had to have my last dog put to sleep at 19 years old I decided I wasn't going to get another dog. That was 17 years ago.
I just didn't want to have to walk around feeling shitty and lost for a month ever again.

Having been where you are a few times, I just want to say that I am truly sorry for your loss. Pets have unconditional love which makes it even harder to part with them. I have been a dog lover all of my life. Now we have a German Shepard and she is the sweetest girl. I know I will cry when she is gone.

So Sorry for your loss Andrew... I too lost a best freind ( Jake) 2 years ago while I was out of town working.

My other "lady" is getting very old And i'm sure she will be leaving us soon.

We also recused another dog a lab/pit mix "Maxx" and is the sweetest dog and he will Be heart broken when Lady is gone.

Again sorry for your loss.
