Just from what I see on all the forums I've ever posted to, the most misspelled word is... a lot.

Most people type it as one word, like this,

alot

But actually it's two words...

a lot

No big deal, and we certainly don't need the Spelling Police on our forum, heck I wood bee the phirst 2 goe to gell.

:D

I have to think the mistakes made with there, their, they're and your/you're have to rank up there too.

And to, too and two...

I make all these mistakes all the time. I know the difference but sometimes my fingers type faster than I think and spell check just checks to make sure the word is spelled correctly, not if it's the correct word.

Another set of words that get by spell check is form and from, it's easy to mistype the word but if they are spelled correctly then spell check doesn't flag them.

:)

How about of in place of have? "Should of" in place of "Should have".

I also see than and then interchanged incorrectly quite often.

Ridiculous not rediculous.

I also hate the improper usage of was and were... :nomore:

Improperly using their/there/they're. My GF hates when I do this but I now do it on purpose.

In forum discussions I usually don't pay much attention to incorrect spelling. Most of us are in a hurry, and sort of laid back. I'm not overly critical because I'm guilty as well. Where I do feel it is important is when an article is to be in print, or e-book, or advertising on a site such as Autogeek. Autogeek does a good job in my opinion. Sure, you may find a mistake, but not like some other places.

I know of one particular site that sells products where the grammar and spelling is horrible. I also have found numerous misspelled words on the site of a highly regarded detailer (that will not be named) who preaches about paying attention to the details. From this guy I purchased an e-article that's filled with basic mistakes. I don't pay it as much attention as a potential client may pay attention to it. The reason is, I'm more concerned with the content of what's being written. I view Mr. Phillips posts and articles in the same manner...it's the content that's important.

We're all human and subject to these kinds of errors. What counts is how we react when someone brings the mistake to our attention.

Meguiar's vs Mequirs.

I was just getting ready to correct your spelling (and prove it to you) when I found this...

...looks like my spelling of, "Meguire's" has been wrong all along. LOL!!!:xyxthumbs::buffing:

Crow isn't all that bad...ha ha.

Maybe not so much misspelled but misused:
accept - except

And using 'irregardless' no matter how you spell it.

The worst one that gets me is people spelling lose as "loose." I am going to loose my mind over that one! haha

Many do use the word alot quite often but in reality it doesn't exist...

There is often confusion over the words 'alot', 'a lot' and 'allot'. Alot

This word does not exist. It is often mistakenly written instead of "a lot".

A lot

The term 'a lot' is the opposite of 'a little'. As an noun, 'lot' means a large extent, a large amount or a large number. As an adverb, 'lot' means 'to a great extent' or 'to a great degree'. It nearly always appears in the form 'a lot'.

Mark has a lot of toys.

(Lot is a noun in this example.)

He cheats a lot.

(Lot is an adverb in this example.) Allot

The verb 'to allot' means 'to give out', 'to apportion', 'to divide' or 'to distribute'. (Other forms of the verb are allots, allotted and allotting.)

Similar to ain't. People used so often that Webster's decided to add it to the dictionary and make it a word.

1. Nonstandard except in some dialects . am not; are not; is not.
2. Nonstandard . have not; has not; do not; does not; did not

How about definitely? There's one that gets misspelled all the time.
