The terms HEAVY or WET - what they mean?

Often times when teaching a class, sharing info in a video, on TV or in a how-to article I will use working like this,

Use the product heavy or wet

This means, USE A LOT OF PRODUCT.

This can apply to a waterless wash, a spray detailer, (when using a spray detailer as a waterless wash), or when using an AIO or one-step cleaner/wax.

In the case of using a waterless wash - the idea being - you want a LOT of lubrication on the surface and you want a LOT of cleaning agents on the surface and they way you get lots of lubrication and cleaners is to use a LOT of product, so use the product heavy or wet.

In the case of an AIO or one-step cleaner/wax, the idea being - you want a lot of lubrication on the surface and you want a LOT of chemical cleaners and abrasives on the surface. You want and NEED these things WORKING FOR YOU. This is especially true if you're working on neglected paint and even more true if working on neglected single stage paint or oxidized gel-coat.

Make sense?

Here's an example showing using a waterless wash heavy or wet.

Technique - How to correctly use a waterless wash

Cleaning a car without a hose means thinking differently about the waterless wash than you normally think about products like spray detailers. Spray detailers are for removing,

  1. Light dust
  2. Fingerprints
  3. Smudges

A waterless wash is for removing actual dirt and road film off of a car. A waterless wash has more cleaning ability than a spray detailer. Spray detailers tend to have more shine and gloss ingredients, this is why you should use a dedicated waterless wash for cleaning your car and save your spray detailers for light cleaning in-between normal washing.

Step 1: Spray down a lot of waterless wash.

The goals is to remove dirt without scratches and to do this you want LOTS of LIQUID on the surface. The liquid, that is the waterless wash is your LUBRICANT. Lots of lubricant plus lots of towels equals safe cleaning.

Spray down a heavy or wet application of waterless wash so you can see a layer of the liquid on the surface but no so much that the waterless wash is running or streaming off the paint. This just wastes product.
