OMG I still can't believe him. So my dad's 2005 Altima got scracted up A LITTLE BIT (a few scratches beyond CC), so what does he decide to do, paint the whole section. He spends money on a paint gun and paint ($150) and decides to do it with his own little air compressor. He did it today OUTSIDE and covered the other sections with newspaper! He did not do any claying/sanding what so ever. I told him to NOT do it and said a professional needs to do any paint work on a car. But, he is so stubbord and thinks modern metallic paints are the same as some 1985 Fiat paint in communist poland. I almost want to cry/scram. Anyway here are the pics:

So how much will a good paint job to fix this cost (2 doors. 1 quarter panel, 1 bumper)? I'm thinking $1000-$1500.

WOW, just WOW..... I hate unopen-minded people....

I'm sorry, but that is SO awesome! I give him full respect for saying F it and just going balls to the wall!

RESPECT!!!

I have considered learning how to do touch up work soley on the fact that I don't trust body shops...

All is not lost with that car... and I believe that you can recover from this without another repaint. You could clay (or paint cleaner) to remove the overspray, sand the new paint into the old paint, and then compound, then polish... The results may not be that bad. But then again it's hard to tell by the pictures. I'd keep going with your dad's thinking- might as well try and do it yourself before taking it to the body shop.

I hate it, but I'm with P1ET thats amazing that he attempted it. Tell him to DA the whole car "sand it down" get it completely ready for paint. Then shoot over to MAACO and get it sprayed for $500-600. I'm going to warn you, MAACO doesn't do anywhere near great work, but they can lay something down that will match.

Those afters are just un-B-leivable

well...now that it is all screwed up...might as well keep practicing....if you cant get it right...just tap out and take it to a body shop and have them respray it...

:iagree: You got to have some guts to be able to do it your self, congrats to him. In the other hand it may not look so good but it could with a little wet sanding and compunding like budman said. May not look so good now but hey the effort goes a long way...in my opinion that is.

Thanks for the sharing.

eh nm. It turns out he did sand out the old paint underneath:(. It's now repaint time.

And now my dad found some guy is will "fix" it and repaint it for only $400.... I KNOW they'll do a half-ass job and the difference will be seen.
