Well, got my bottle in today, and the seller even included a nice size sample of 85RE5 for me to try too.

Here's what I did:

I did only the trunk, since it's all I had time for.
1. Washed the entire car
2. Cleaned the trunk with CM (no fallout, so I didn't clay)
3. Used the XMT3 for the first time. Used a light cut orange Edge 200 pad at 5 to 6 on the 7336, and it worked well. Got out almost all the swirls/scratches except the deepest ones (they aren't down to the metal, fyi). Went slowly, and worked it in about 4-5 minutes per roughly 2x2 section on the trunk.
4. Used the PO85RD with the blue Edge 2000 pad at about 1.5 on the 7336. Great stuff, left the surface very smooth and glossy looking. Again, worked it in for about the same amount of time. It appears to be everything I've read about it, and I'm very satisfied.
5. One coat of SG, WO/WO
6. One coat of NB
7. One more coat of CM for good measure.

Now, here's my questions:
1. Had some light micromarring, so should I have gone down to XMT1 with the blue pad or orange pad before I did the PO85RD?
2. For the deeper scratches, should I now go one pad more aggressive with the XMT3? If not, then what? (I have both XMT3 and XMT1)
3. Should I have used AIO somewhere in there?
4. When I did the PO85RD at speed 1.5, the pad doesn't seem to spin that much. Am I applying too much pressure? The bottle says to use "med." pressure. Should I have used the white pad instead of the blue pad?

Thanks for everyones continued help...my head is spinning from all the combinations lol:p

you should've used sped 6 for the 85rd. it's a polish, albeit a very fine one. it needs the speed to work properly. @ speed 1.5, it didnt do anything.

as for the deeper stuff, let it be. no use in thining your clearcoat unnecessarily.

OK, I'll try it at that speed next time. Continue with the blue pad, or go down to the white pad (Edge 2000)?

Also, will XMT3 really remove the clear coat? I thought that they were "clear coat safe" since it really isn't a "compound" so to speak?

What about the micromarring? Go over it again with the XMT1? Or should the PO85RD take care of that?

Thanks for the help Neo.

Anything abrasive can remove very small (tiny) areas of clearcoat. Thus starting with the least abrasive polish and pad first is good idea. P085 really should do most if not all the work for you. You need to use it on high (like Neo offered) and using a medium or light pad. Work it for several minutes.

Clearcoat safe = for use on vehicles with clearcoat

Since I had issues with my edge pads... I've talked to Aaron @ edge a few times. You really shouldn't be running the PC @ 6 very much at all. The blue pad is a finishing pad... and very soft. You can't use much, hardly any pressure with it. The white pad is even softer.

If you are using a polish you should probably be using the orange pad @ a 4 or 5. If you are needing to go to 6 or apply a lot of pressure, then from what I am told you need to be using a rotary.

You need to work in Polishes at least at speeds 4-5 as mentioned above. Then for a final finish-up I'll go to speed 6. The PC doesn't generate the heat or power a rotary can. The Edge pads can handle speed 6 easily. Especially since I use Optimum Compound and Polish which don't break down as quick as other products.

Ya, I went out and re-did the trunk this morning, and there was a big difference. All the micromarring is gone, and the 85RD left a very glossy and smooth surface.

Going to do the rest of the car now....woot!!

I don't get it. I can't get more than two minutes out of anything. (when polishing my car, I mean).

sounds like more of an excuse to use Lake Country Pads ..... never had one fall apart and speed makes no difference.
