Hey guy's today I started on my Jeep Patriot. Paint is black with a lot of fleck or metallic in it. I spend a lot of time just on the hood today and thought I would ask for some tips.

My biggest problem was seeing the swirls. I had a snap-on led light, black and decker hand held and a 500 watt halogen as well as the sun. Even in direct sunlight I really had a hard time seeing the swirls.

I went with Meg's MF 5 inch pad and car pro fixer after I had initially tried white and orange hydro tech pads with Megs 205 with very little results. I ended up doing 5-6 passes with car pro fixer followed by a white hydro tech with WG finishing glaze.

Overall I am happy with the results but after I opti-coated it I still noticed the odd scratch here and there.

I guess my biggest question would have to be how often you guys get 100% correction. I honestly spend about 2 hrs on the hood just taking my time and did 5 test spots with different combos.

Any input is appreciated:)

Is this a show car or a daily driver?

If it's a daily driver, maybe not shoot for 100% show car perfection?

Educate the customer on how thin the clear layer of paint is and that all the UV protection is in the clear layer.

Underpromise and over deliver.

IF they truly want a perfect finish nothing wrong with this but make sure you're charing for it and make sure they know what's involved in taking care of a show car finish on a daily driver.

Maybe set them up on a monthly maintenance plan where you wash it and take care of it.

Admire your passion for perfection....

Quick reply. I like it. Sadly it is my vehicle and I am aiming for as much correction as possible:) I'll be sure to pay myself a lot lol.

Oh I know it's terrible although I am not that comfortable wetsanding the whole vehicle.

Maybe once I gain more experience I'll tackle it but for now I guess I'll just continue with a good polish and opti-coat.

Unfortunately I have the same issue, you really have to get the sun just right, right around 11-1 works best and anything other than direct sunlight is tough to see. You really have to go over it real slowly to ensure correction.
