There's always been discussion about the safety of tire gels for the tires

BEEN AWAY A WHILE...IM BACK .....HELLO MEGAN AND KILLRWHEELS..:-)

Just put on 4 brand new GOOD YEARS on my ride and the last thing the tire dealer said to me upon driving away is to stay away from tire shine products...especially AROUR ALL ..
is there a safe one out there ???????

seems the tire people are always down on tire sprays , gels etc...i do want a shine but a conservative and safe one....that will not harm the tires in the long run'

thanks guys.....

It's always the people who don't use tire shine that end up with brown and cracked up tires. Tire shines restore the deep black color and protect from the sun, the only problem is that you have to keep using the tire shine to maintain that look.

Right.......i love tire shine......can they all be bad?????? AS TIRE DEALERS REPORT???????

If I am not mistaken, it is really only the products that contain silicone and petroleum that are harmful. This is from Tire Industry Association - TIA

Myth # 5: Using petroleum- or silicone-based tire cleaners/shines won’t damage tires.”

Fact: Many popular tire cleaners/shines contain petroleum or silicone products, which will damage the rubber.
Tire manufacturers add a wax-based protectant that helps to protect the tire against ozone, which will cause the
tire to begin to crack and dry rot. This wax protectant is forced to the surface every time a tire is flexed as it rolls.
The silicone ingredient in many common tire shine products dissolves this wax protectant, thus increasing the
tires vulnerability to dry rot. Consumers are advised to read the label when shopping for a tire cleaner/shine, and
make sure there are no petroleum- or silicone-based ingredients.

So, it looks like using water-based dressings are the way to go. I personally use Detailers Pride Gloss Tire Gel and I get compliments and "How do you keep your tires looking so good" questions everywhere I go.

the tire dressings you want to avoid are the ones which contain solvents and chemicals. these will harm the tires over time and cause cracks and brownness.

always check if the tire dressing your buying contains anything like that. some suggestions for you, I myself like the pinnacle tire dressing, Optimum tire shine, and opti-bond tire gel.

GUYS.Whats your take on this

No Touch Wet N Protect Tire Shine

Bill that looks okay, but I would rather purchase some Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel that is sold at the Autogeek.net website. I believe that the Optimum tire shine products are strictly water-based and are a healthy option for the tires.

I use Poorboy's World Bold N Bright Tire Dressing, its a cleaner and tire shine product in one.

I usually clean the tires with tire foam and just apply the poorboys to clean tires for shine, its waterbased and leaves a satin-like shine. For a less messy application I use a microfiber towel and wipe product onto the tires as opposed to spraying product directly onto tires.

I have pinnacle black onyx but have yet to use it mainly because the poorboys gets me the results I want.

I use wolfgang black diamond tire gel. It has rubber conditioners in it.

Welcome Back Bill !!!

Use Optimum, or Poorboys Bright/Bold. Both water based. You can occasionally clean with brush and RollOff as desired.

Thanks killr.....now if i could just find a good waterless basic NO shining tire cleaner as a prelude to the dressing i bought today......:)

as much as I drive, I had to give up on tire dressings, except if I attend a car/truck show. I find that keeping the rubber tires scrubbed and washed regularly is not a bad look either..
jmop!

I agree.. I like the mat look.....not a lot of shine....1 one sweep of the gel...

I recently was asked to do a very basic detail on this AUDI. I was able to make a little extra on the tire treatment !Im the MAN

Tire Dealers tell you to stay away from tire dressings because they want your tires to dry out and crack before their life is up so you will come back quicker to get new ones.
