I started this thread to honor all of the brave men and women who are currently serving or who have served our country in the past. It amazes me when I think about it. As a percentage of our entire population, those serving in our armed forces are relatively few and yet they are willing to serve and pay the ultimate price to protect the rest of us and to keep our country free.

To our brave men and women who are willing to make that sacrifice I thank you and humbly salute you. You are all heroes! For the rest of us, remember to pray for the protection of all of our troops in Iraq, Afganistan and in the rest of the world.

Memorial Day is a day to remember those who lay down their lives for our freedom so let's remember them and give them the honor and gratitude that they deserve.

"oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave over the land of the free and the home of the brave"

Yes it does! Thanks to our national heroes! Thank you all! Happy Memorial Day.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart Floridanative. Last night I dropped my wife off at the AFB@Charleston, she'll be in Aludeed(major sp?) flying in and out of Iraq. I am freakin mess right now and doen't know what to do :(. The only positive thing is since she is flight crew (load master on the C17 planes) her time is only 3 month, sadly we have been married less then a month and now she is gone for 3 :(. Thanks so very much for your prayes and please keep the spouses in your prayers as well

Well said!

This is my 3rd Memorial day home since my time in Iraq, and each one takes on a deeper and deeper meaning. Thanks for the post, hopefully there will be a time when the ones we memorialize, pass long after their retirement.

From your lips to God's ears. My family is a military family too. I have had relatives in every war. And I know the anxiety and uncertainty of having loved ones over seas and the joy and elation of having them home. And Wystang, I really do pray. And I promise you I will pray for your wife every morning and every night until she is safely returned to you. My brother-in-law is in Afganistan right now. He's there for 6 months and he has a wife and an infant son in Seattle. I pray for him every single day and night and for all of our troops. And no matter what our stand is on this war, I think the one thing that our nation is united on is that all of our troops are heroes and we want them all home safe and sound.

From an old "puking Buzzard" ... 101st Airborne Division 1961-1968, it's a real treat to see how today's folks treat veterans and military members.

I recently picked up an "Adopt A Soldier" from a great site: http://www.operationac.com/

They will send you the e-mail address of a service member in Iraq, and I've talked a few times a week with a young fella from Lubbock Texas. It's a few minutes a few times a week to let someone that doesn't have family know they've got a "bud" here. In addition, I've sent him baby-wipes (big request), and a stack of Mustang and Car Mags (as I finish reading them, I simply put them in a pile to mail). I also e-mail him pics of some of the exotic details I've done as well as local car shows.

For those who want to try it...it's free, it's a great feeling that you made a connection to someone that is in harm's way daily.

Have a memorable Memorial Day all!
