A few months ago it would be "curses to you", but today it is kudos.

Preface:
A couple of months ago, a gas leaf blower guy was blowing leaves, twigs, rocks and whatever; around, under, over, into cars parked in our office lot. I asked him not to do it around my car cause it blows debris on my car and could scratch the surface, plus my windows were cracked an inch. He said okay, but I saw him down the way and after he blew around the cars, he'd blow all the crap off the car after.
(What's the problem with leaves in streets and parking lots anyway, that they have to be cleaned up constantly? Is it a new America, or NorCal suburbia thing?)

Last month when I saw a different leaf blower, I asked him if he was finished in the back lot. He said yes, so I moved my car. He saw me get out and complimented me on my car.

Today:
He sees me leaving for my lunch time swim. He approaches me and asks if I could park somewhere else next week, since they want to clean up where I park and haven't used the blower there the last 2 visits. I told him definitely and thanked him. Awesome!

As much as I hate to see vehicles getting debris blown under and around them, the guys doing the blowing have a job to do and just don't have the time to track down the owners and then sit and wait while all the cars are being moved. Usually, the company doing the work is under a yearly contract and must abide by it and complete the weekly maintenance in order to be paid. With that said, it's nice to see that they have taken note that you care for your vehicle and are giving you a heads up!

The first day I took delivery on my new car 4 years ago...the campus lawn crew blew wet grass all over my car.

I took pictures afterward and sent them to the facilities manager on campus. Nothing came of it but a half baked apology. My car has been a target ever since. I remember one day last winter the campus salt truck turned his salt shooter on just as he was upon the side of my car...and sprayed a nice coating of rock salt all over the side of the car. Luckily I had the car coated and the salt didn't damage the paint.

The car frankly has been a nightmare in terms of folks doing crap like that. Its hard enough battling mother nature without that sort of stuff happening. However I am retiring in December and those nightmares are soon to end.

Its funny how jealous people are. The day I drove that car to work...I got comments like..."somebody's getting paid way too much money"..."mid life crisis, hey"?...etc, etc. I find that funny since there are $50,000 SUVs in my parking lot and that's fine,.,,,but a red sports car driven by a 60+ year old guy...that seems to draw the worse out in some people.

Hey John,

I "feel your pain" and sympathize with you. I also have two choice words for these bozo's,,,which of course are inappropriate on this forum....

Hang in there brother....:props:

AWESOME!! This made me smile this morning. Thanks for sharing!

My black Raptor has suffered only once the mishap of my lawncare people. I wish I could have been more like you in handling it. I unfortunately decided to intimidate them using my 6'6" 250 lbs frame in their face with strong well worded and definite threats. I can tell you that they have been EXTREMELY careful around my truck and my staff's vehicles..... but I've regretted the encounter ever since :(

I still don't understand why those guys are allowed to blow leaves into the streets-basically just moving the debris from one place to another and then it clogs the drains-###?

Maybe I am old school-get it into a pile then pick it up and bag it and remove it.

^^^:iagree:^^^

Same goes for the the residential neighborhood ignoramuses that blow their grass clippings and leaves into the streets!

Next time just tell them what handle you go by on car forums. Tell them they don't want to know why. :dblthumb2:

I am with you guys, why not vacuum it up!

Lol,
Yea, since I am one of the few houses on my street that don't pay a crew to do it, I feel like they blow my neighbors crap on my lawn. I sometimes go out there and blow off my car when they are packing up the truck.....

I've done work in landscaping before and it isn't fun blowing leaves and grass clippings in commercial parking lots. I always blow off the vehicles after the ground is clean and NEVER blow any rocks, sticks, or heavy stuff near them. Get near a patch of rocky gravel and it is basically sand blasting your paint.
To the guys asking why can't they bag the leaves, seriously? Do you know how time consuming and messy that is? Blow the leaves into nearby woods or pine straw beds is fine it's not hurting anything. It's very difficult to blow leaves into a sewer drain they just all fly back out so I've never seen anyone do that.
Once I parked my trans am in a shopping center early in the morning when the grass was still wet and a crew came out and left a mess all over my ride. Mud made it's way all the way to the top of the spoiler and all into my exhaust.

The guys that do our lot bag the clippings and leaves. Drainage creek close by. I'm not against blowing leaves, but once a month is plenty. New leaves move in the next day anyway and it looks the same as it did before.

I just wanted to take note of the positive experience. Not once did I show any anger or frustration with the crew. Each time I was very appreciative of what they were doing, but asked if they could be a little careful. Fortunately for me, I found an A class employee.

I do my own yard work too. I code all day so yard work isn't that bad. Only a power mower. No blower or power edger. I just don't understand the obsession of blowing leaves (and I'm aware of the time/job/cost factor.) Psychological? Environmental?

All I know is, I'm driving the beater or riding my bike on Tuesdays.

people are ridiculous. i work from home and the rumor mill is apparently always churning about what i do because of my car. people don't realize that i just flat out love cars and place a financial priority in my vehicles over other dumb stuff that people blow money on. i mean, i analyze my expenses every year down to the cent so i know exactly what's going on and can continue to modify my spending so i can be comfortable.

Job security. Today owe blow it across the street. Tomorrow we blow it back over here. Keep repeating. Collect check on Friday.

my landscaping is kept better than any other house in the neighborhood. I'm always telling my guy he cant get the lines bright enough or straight enough.

Hey I'm in PA and open carry is legal. That will get their attention.

A buddy that lives in New Jersey had something similarly annoying done to his car by the parking lot snowplow crew. He watched them shove as much snow as possible against his car after it had started snowing after a nice clear morning. He had parked way in the back of the lot on purpose since he had a beautiful new Audi.
His revenges was fast and dirty. He knew where the plow crew came from and on the next really freezing day he drove a different car (his beater) and payed the driver of the plows car a visit.
Smashed one of his windows and filled the car with water from a sprinkler. Just enough to leave a nice coating of ice all over the interior. I wish he had hidden out near the car to get the reaction but he never heard anything about it. And soon after the business park had a different company plowing and they did it at night when the lot was totally empty.

Should be a god given right that ALL states allow! Most criminals would think twice about their bad ideas! Lol!

I have the same issue at work. we have a 24 year old who has ZERO common sense and argues everything.. Tells people not to worry about stuff etc. I washed my car on wednesday night.. Thursday he was out weedwacking and never asked anyone to move there car. I told him my keys were in my car and to move it before he weedwacks.. He moved it 2ft away from the grass and went full boar with a Stihl Trimmer. Covered the back of my car in grass, along with everyone elses. I lost it on him. He told me not to worry about it cause it will come off. I told him to go spend 8 hours doing a full polish on his car. Then i'll go and toss a bag of wet grass on it. See how he feels. He still hasn't apologized nor gives a ####. (btw i cleaned up the wording for this forum!) So from now on i go move it myself.

I would just like to mention too. I work at a toyota dealership as a detailer (I try my best with the stuff they supply to detail properly)
