well today was the first day of work on my 78 firebird, and lets just say it was rather interesting spending 4 hours cleaning up the top side of the engine compartment (will save the lower half for when i can get it going to a coin wash so i can use a pressure sprayer).....

i used 4 cans of that gunk gel engine degreaser a gallon of purple power straight and a tooth brush it isnt 100 percent clean id say rather maybe 50-75 % clean until i pull the hood off.

and for referance this is what my engine compartment looked like when i started.

jeeze that's a disaster to work on. You brought its color back though.

yup about 15 minutes by hand on the one spot (that time includes rinising off the pad about 4 or 5 times) haha

i also did the rear spoiler but my arms gave out on me and i gave up til i can get ahold of a pc and some xmt 4 !

If you weren't so far away, I would bring my rotary, OC, PC and DG#101 and #105 over and help you out.
Thanks for sharing your pics. Keep us updated!

ive been wantin a pc for so long i just cant seem to save the cash for the xmt kit, ive been putting the money into cars :D but this was probably the kick i needed to save up i dont want to hand polish the entire thing for mediocre results

goin back for another round today gonna flood the engine with disel to get rid of any sludge that might have built up over the years and probably get some more polishin done on the hood.

lol just gut it and send it for media blasting, they are money pits aint they!

yup but god knows i would give my last dime to get this baby 100% done......ah maybe i can buy the pad kit and rent a pc from a hardware store :D
