today i took my bimmer to peter pan bmw, as most people must know, dealers love to give your car a complementary wash, or is i like to refer to it, a complementary bath of sand, think of it as complementary swirls. Knowing the horrors of these "nice" services they provide, i took my own steps to prevent my bimmer from coming back to me as a hollogram on wheels. I put a sign up in the window that says " please do NOT detail this car, or: vacuum, polish, wax, clean, use air fresheners, or use any unnesasary chemical on this car, thank you."(just being Thorough ) and i also spoke to the advisor personaly about keeping all the dirt on my car. hopefully when i get my car tomorrow it will have all the dirt that i left it off with on it. p.s., my car is really dirty since i havent had time to wash my car, because i have been spending too much time making other peoples cars look good.

i did this too - my dealer politely obliged, and told me many vette customers don't want their cars washed.
hopefully, you will be as lucky.

shoot i'd be worried about taking a bimmer to a place called "PETER PAN", sounds kinda weird

You should be fine then, because they Never Never wash cars in that Land. :D

Yea sounds like a day care...

I always tell them no wash no vac. Although once they still washed it (it was my fault, I haven't washed it for a week and it was dirty), but luckily there was no swirls at all.
Just be sure you wash it yourself before giving it to your dealer.

Thats a good idea must remember to leave a friendly note next time the car is being serviced

both my files have "do not wash" all over them. I know the techs see it, as they all comment good choice. I saw them washing an Escalade with a broom.

I read elsewhere that the trend (left coast anyway) is for dealerships to expand their in-house prep & detail work, likely owing to liability and labor issues. If true this should eventually lead to an increase in dissatisfied customers seeking professionals to correct their work. Hope so. Just imagine a detail bay flanked by mechanics bays under dim incandescent lamps with common soap, rags, towels and techs.

I always request no wash my dealer (BMW, Porsche, Cadillac, Mercedes) has no wash signs they will put in the windows when requested. I guess lots of customers request "no wash".

Hahahah I thought the same thing exactly. First it would be hard giving "Peter Pan" over a couple of bucks. Here Peter Pan here's 60K. j/k

Funny how so many of us thought the same thing on the Peter Pan thing. I gather the dealer didn't feel that way when they picked the name. Could be worse you could be the "Cum Park Grille" in Burlington NC conveinently located in "Cum Park Plaza". I was traveling through there a while back and was in disbelief. I hate when customers take their cars into the dealers and it gets washed. Many tell them please do not wash but some don't. The service techs can be hard on a cars too. I had a customer with a 2006 535i go in for new tires. Took me half an hour to get the wheels looking normal and the car is cleaned weekly.

I'm not sure if my dealership gives free car washes. Then again, I own a Dodge and a Ford!

I told the BMW reprasentative who helped me out and she happly said "sure i understand"
The sign in the window is a must. I just hope those techs go easy on my ride, the engine is clean, and the inside is also looking good, but my carpets are dirty. i agree, it would have been a good idea to wash my car before it took it in, i just didnt have the time

yea my dad took the Volvo XC90 in to the dealer they washed and had a big scratch on the door down to the metal, got re painted, ended scratching the bumper had to polish that.

I told him Dad never let them wash your brand new car again.

got my car back, its as dirty as when i left it, its time to wash! yay.
