So this month has been pretty good for me. Idk why but ive had an influx in calls. The unfortunate thing is the temp has dropped dramatically to where morning temps are hovering around 14 degrees. Well most of my details are your average Fords, Chevys, Toyota details. Last week I get a call from the SWAT team and they wanted one of their black armored trucks to be washed at the convention that they will be at. Not only was I stoked to do a detail on a armored truck for the SWAT team but since it was going to be during a convention it was going to be free advertising for me. Unfortunately, as i was getting everything ready to head to the site, I got a call from the customer. The hotel convention center told him they will not be allowed to have their vehicle cleaned at the facility so he canceled. :/

Cancellations can be frustrating, but focus on the positive that during a very cold period your call volume is increasing!

It's always better to focus on what is going right rather than what went wrong.

Most detail shops hurt during the winter months, but yours is increasing. That's something to be thrilled about.

Yeah im a glass half full type of person so im not to upset but man that would have not only been a fun detail but it would have given me some good exposure.

Yup, cancellations do suck, especially when then do it last minute. I just had one myself this morning, so felt the same way, although it wasn't as cool of a job as yours. Mark is right though, focus on the positives and move on from it, nothing you (or I) can do about our situations now, just move on and do the next one and try to accomplish something else in this now free time that you have today that might benefit the business.

Congrats on getting busier in the winter, always a good thing!

By the way...the glass is always FULL...even if it's half water and half air!

Man sorry to hear that! The good news is...they will probably call you 1st for a future job!! You must have a good reputation and that is way cool!!

Charge your customers for cancellations.

That is just not realistic. Not only will people not pay it but you are going to ruin any chance of serving them in the future. The only way that works is if you have an iron clad system and make them very aware of a fee ahead of time.

Yeah not only would i feel unethical to charge a cancellation fee i wouldn't even be able to track it down lol. I ended up emailing the guy a 15% off coupon for a future detail. This way if he ever needs a detail in the future i will come to mind.

Had the same thing happen to me Friday evening but it worked out. Ended up snowing Sunday morning over 2" here and was below freezing from Friday night until today. Would have not been realistic for me to be detailing the customers car so I explained to her cancelling wasn't such a bad thing and we rescheduled for 2 weeks out. The customer was very grateful and now i get the car for a longer period.

Think positively and it never ends up being that bad.

Thats sucks but chances are they will probably reschedule the convention. So your probably be the first one to call to detail. And maybe it will fall on a warmer day then you can enjoy it more.

i say contact the banquet manager of the hotel, or if the convention center is a separate body, contact their sale liason.

you can usually work something out if you explain your situation, and what your actual environmental impact will be.
