I have a 2007 toyota Tacoma. The bumbers and fender flares are factory painted to match. The bumber and fenders have a little orange peel or visiual texture to them, not so much to the touch.
My question is will this buff out to a clear shine like I am hoping to achieve on the rest of the truck? Or will it be a little more dull due to the fact its painted plastic?
Thanks in advance.

You should be able to get them to shine quite nicely. But as far as getting the orange peel out that usually takes wet sanding....

I was hoping so, im still waiting to get some supplies in from autogeek to get started.
The orange peel is the best way I know how to describe it, that may be a little strong. I guess I will just have to try and see. In my opinion the paint on Toyota's is a little weak/thin. When you throw that on plastic its not pretty. Now my wifes Honda Pilot's paint seems a whole lot thicker than the Toyota.

orange peel looks exactly like it sounds, it a rippling in the painted surface. It does take skilled wet-sanding to remove, but most cars come with alot of it for free so dont be upset just polish and protect and amplify the reflection and gloss.

This leads me to a question I've been wondering about. When using a ROM polisher like a PC do you treat the painted plastic panels like bumpers the same as metal panels such as a hood or decklid?

Yes and no. Yes you will use the same products, but no, you will polish these parts lightly and quickly. You will have to be more careful with plastic parts. They tend to be less resistant to heat and if it gets too hot, the paint softens up and the movement of your polisher will push the paint away from the plastic creating a wrinkle...haven't experienced it yet, but i hope i never do. :)

Thanks Rohn, I haven't seen this addressed on here. Most of the videos are done on the hood. This helps a lot, I hope it never happens either, to anyone.

I own a Tacoma. The flares themselves have a texture to them. If you buff or wet sand them, you will go right down to the plastic and have a major problem. All Tacomas look this way.
(I'm a "new guy" here, but an "old guy' when it comes to detailing and Toyotas.)

You won't be able to remove what you're seeing. I had an '03 Tacoma with the exact same thing you're describing. Its almost like the fender flare was textured before they sprayed it, but the paint is perfectly smooth on top. Its weird and I've only seen it on Toyota trucks.

A little late on this, but tguil is correct.

There is a texture on the bumpers/flares that does not get sanded smooth before paint at the factory. These areas will always look like this unless you decide to pay a body shop to sasnd all the paint off and smooth out the flares/bumpers and repaint.

I thought the Original Poster misspelled bumper in the thread title, but he spelled it the same way in his post so I'm wrong!:buffing:
